edmonton oilers

mac t is done

doesnt say if he stepped down or got let go.

Thanks for a good service craig.

bet he's hired in another town by start of new season.

he was on the short list for team canada as well. if he's good enough for TC, he obviously isnt as bad a coach as each armchair fan thinks he is.

Im glad he is gone. I think he is a good guy and I love the way he addresses the media but he had his time to prove himself. Other than one run to game 7 of the cup finals he hasnt done much, every year we are struggling to make it into the playoffs.

 Canucks fan here. If I were running the oil the first firing would be Lowe. He's the architect of the team. Not sure how much lattitude he gives Scrambelini. MacT did a good job considering the talent he was supplied with. He will be a good find for whoever hires him. Thanks oil for helping us beat C-town for first in the division.

X2, Mac T had nothing to work with. Lowe managed to screw up every deal and get minimal talent in return.

Holy crap. Are some of you guys related to Mac T?

Sure, Lowe and Tambellini deserve some blame, but when you have a coach that relies on a so-called defensive system that allowed the 5th most shots against in the league, there MAY be a problem. Especially when you've had the 2nd least shots on goal with only Minnesota taking less.

A coaches job in my opinion is to take what is given to him, and make the best of it, can you honestly say Mac T did that with this squad? I don't. You have some real good young talent there, a killer powerplay, as well as some veteran leadership, you have the players to be competing in the playoffs. I think the coach just failed to motivate his players and lost the room, his time was up in my opinion as an outsider looking in, and I had heard in his interview he was not approached by Team Canada, I thought he said this himself and it was a rumour.

I mean look at the blues, look at the squad they iced this year and the injuries, yet they are in it, not many analysts thought vancouver would be in the playoffs, yet they won the division, again I think some pretty big credit goes to the coaches by getting every bit out of your players, and bringing them together as a team, not to mention strategies to void the other teams threats, all which seemed to fail miserably in oil land.

That being said I think Edmonton has a few more problems that just macT, but as a canuck fan, I really don't mind, honest! haha but in all honesty I woulda liked the oil to be in the playoffs, there a fun team to watch

Glad he is gone, but Katz said the other day Mac T was going no where!! Guess Katz is full of sh@t and his word means 0

All Katz was doing was taking the heat off because mathematically they weren't out of the playoffs at the time.

Everyone knew the writing was on the wall...

Huh?

Tambellini is the GM

Yeah but Lowe made most of the deals that formed the team. Aside from Hemsky and souray they have no elite talent. 5 or 6 players on that team should be fixing water leaks not playin pro hockey. The oiler organization is bankrupt of good young talent aside from 2 or 3 players. Not very good at the draft table and only a 10th overall pick this year. Time fer a complete rebuild, hope they don't tho I remember the 80's and they were great at the draft. Also what's the 3 goalie system thing about?

So what was McTavish's excuse prior to that? Other than a run to the cup final where EVERYTHING went right until the final, they've just slid into the playoffs by the skin of their teeth.

There is talent in Springfield, but McTavish refused to use it.

edmonton has some great talent, they may not have many elite players, but they have alot of good players who have the potential to be elite, sometimes elite players are also not what is needed, Canucks of 94, Flames of 04, Edmonton of 06 etc.. sometimes it just takes someone to bring that team together to play like a elite team, rather than a team of elite players which again comes down in a big part to the coach. Gagner, Cogliano, Hemsky and Horcoff are all young players who have alot more potential than what was shown this year, maybe coaching could have helped this? who knows, but these are players built for a fast paced offensive game, and I didnt see the oilers doing that this season, its like having the canucks old WCE line playing defensive trap hockey, it would not have made sense. You also have Souray and Visnovsky for your blueline which are solid players, this is a team that should have made the playoffs, there is alot of blame to go around, but canning MacT was a step in the right direction IMO

and what, no congrats on the nucks first win over the blues :)
