EDGE sidehilling -Steering/front suspension modification

Have anybody done some modifications to make a edge sidehill easier?

I ride a 04 Vertical edge 156, using the narrow holes and removed anti-roll bar.

tried a 2011 AC HCR, and it sidehilles and letting me control it so much easier than the old poo.

any suggestions how to make the edge handle better? exept trading it for a new sled :tongue:
 
Slp powder pros with carls cut out, zero pro shocks, and if ya can find it the tcp radius rod kit,giving you 11 inches of travel in front. My edge sidehills like a dream BUT nowhere as good as my 2011 pro and your lookin at big bucks to do the front. figure skis 400.00 shocks 1000.00+ kit maybe 400 or so. In all honesty you r better off saving for a newer sled. And I love my edge to death. But it will in fact never come close to the pro for handeling and easy side hill
Heck I can side hill the pro ride with feet on both sides in regular position if i want to..and carve donuts sitting down..just that easy

thanks for reply, now prices are a different story here in Norway, a good shaped edge with licence plate is worth about $8000, the brand new HCR was about $25000.

isn't the powder pro's a pita to ride on hard packed snow and trails?

can the stock ryde fx shocks be compared to the zero pro's?

what's up with that tcp radius rod kit?
does anybody have drawings or detailed info?
I could fab almost anything in my workshop if i had drawings.

yes they do not work as well as other skis, if you run them get the small trail carbide for sure, they do tend to track a bit.

I allready have MMP 2-wheel kit,
the ryde fx's have only 4" of travel and 17"c-c,
do you know the part number for the -fox zero pros?
 


The only shock I could find to work was the zbros exit, the fox do not have enough travel,only 5 inches.

I believe they are for a arctic cat HCR with wide front end, I'm sure if you give zbros the size they czn hook you up
 
From my understaning this mod will widen the front end and give you more travel in the suspension. This is great for jumping and when you want more stability but as for boondocking and side hilling a wider front end will make the sled harder to get over on it's side. There have been guys who have cut down there radius rods an inch on each side to shorten the stance. A shorter stance would help with side hilling. Just my 2 cents
 
Well the bigest problem I had with side hill was the fact that the suspention bottomed out on the uphill side first,then the sled could be picked up and off ya go, but the edge is very touchy compared to my pro on sidehill, ie with no more suspention travel available you are balancing on a solid ski in effect. I have run my edge with narrow suspention, yes it will roll over quicker but still on the solid ski deal. What I wanted to do was have a lot of travel left while the sled was rolled over, and the long travel does just this. You can just cut the rods a inch or 2 and still run a narrow stance with this kit if you want. I am guessing it would require a 18.5 shock.

All in all with the bent upper arm you can roll the body of the sled over far more without picking up the ski, this tends to give more control. imho
 
First off that is a pretty sweet sled you got there, I love it nice job! I see what you are saying, but I am wondering just how soft of front shock are you running? I don't think I have ever had my front shock bottom out on a side hill, When I am in the powder my hill side ski doesn't really compress much, It surely has never bottomed out. I would think that In order to take advantage of that "extra travel" (for side hilling) that shock would have to be pretty soft in order to compress that far. I am just running the stock stance but would really like to cut mine down. I have 2 sleds one almost stock 162 Power claw and one full mod . They are night and day difference in side hilling. They bolth have the stock front end, however my mod sled has a fabcraft rear skid,153 Power claw, a big riser, and a Van Amburg boondocker Tunnel. Not sure what it is about that set up but it can side hill with ease, and I can side hill with bolth feet on each side of the tunnel, it is very predictable compared to my other sled, I think the wide boards on the tunnel help a lot. There is a night and day difference in handeling. Just the other day I met a guy on the hill who had a 162 edge with a TCP wide end kit on it that had been set up straight from Max over at TCP. I took it for a spin and that thing was way more difficult to get on its edge than either of my two sleds.

yeah hard to really say, probably has to do with me being 6'6" and 280 and the sled weighing 425...lol....I also think my 16 wide track is not helping either.
I was running the fox floats at 50 psi, not good, they would work ok at 75-80 but suspention was plenty stiff at that pressure. Zbros are very soft in first 2 stages,then hard progressive for main spring. :D
 
I have the TCP set up and it works good but is wider and most likely harder to side hill. Bro has a stock 04 ve with sway bar removed and it definatly easier to get over and still handles great.

Edge Handeling

Front Skis / Polaris Grippers / are great bang for the buck all the way around they will bolt right on to the Edge spindle. Throw the Sway bar away.

Get a the right Front Springs for your weight, adjust pressure as necessary.
To soft of front springs is not good.

Handle bar risers.

Get them up high enough to so you can stand straight up, Pivot foward to get you over the front of the sled.

This will help you more than all the suspension in the World
