Easy/Effective Hood 'glue'?

Could someone suggest a product that I could use to fix a cracked hood ('04 REV)? Looking for something strong and uncomplicated (something glue-like/epoxy), not 'rivets and metal'.

I realize that having it 'reinforced' with something behind it is the best idea, but I'm not that 'handy' with fixing things! I think I should be able to fix this, just need a good product.

Thanks, jen

P.S. A friend suggested this forum ... so here I am.

Zipe tie the thing every inch or so and then run shoe goo down the seam, this keeps it from vibrating and breaking the zipties.

you can get shoe goo at lots of shoe stores, its awsome stuff.

If the crack wasnt too big, just stop drill the end of the crack (to keep it from spreading) and throw a little bit of super glue on it.

How long is the crack?

You should be able to buy the appropriate adhesive/repair material at your local auto-body supply store, or check with a reputable body shop.

I believe your hood material is SURLYN. From the ski-doo web site:

Front Member & Frame Material Aluminum
Hood SURLYN
Side Panels Impact Resistant Copolymer
Belly Pan Impact Resistant Copolymer
Skis Mountain Ski

Thanks for all the replies. Lots of ideas! I really appreciate it.

Picking one will be the hard part.

I attached a picture. Where my finger is, that 'crack' actually is a 'break' all the way from that vent down to the edge of the hood. Along with that, I have crack up by the plastic by the headlight, but it doesn't move much, so I'm less concered about it.

Hopefully this pic uploads, I took it with my cell phone (camera battery is dead).

Fix the thing right you don't want it to look like crap. Dennis Kirk has a product made especially for repairing hoods. I have personally used it and it has lasted for two years now with no weakening at all. It looks professional and holds up and is easy to use, its the real mccoy you won't be disppointed.

i just sold that exact hood with same emblems. like new for $40. a month ago. look in swap meet on here you will find one. the funny thing is her name was jen also. i think i sent it to wash. crazy women drivers.

Two part epoxy and then add a short piece of bailing wire down the underside of the hood inside the epoxy. Just gluing the two sides of the break will not work. You must "bridge" the break with something. The fiberglass is the same idea.

I used some flexible metal brackets with pre-drilled holes and bought a bunch of small gold bolts (which matches my yellow hood) and nuts and it worked great for the big cracks (around 3-5 inches long). Used heat tape (pretty sticky and strong) for the smaller cracks. But the two part apoxy sounds like I need to do that...

Fixed! =)

Hi all .... I took my hood into Napa in Belgrade and they gave me something called 'Plastic Weld' . It worked!!! I don't know that it will survive another crash, but it looks like it's holding pretty solidly.

And, the wisenheimers told me to 'SLOW DOWN!!!' I said, "don't stop in front of me!" ;) They were great help, the store was dead, so it was nice to have their time/thoughts. Good guys.

We're riding tomorrow, so it'll be a good test to see how it holds up. My fingers are crossed! Thanks for all the ideas.
