eastern mountain riding, comparable to the west?

I didnt know they had mountains in the east, they may call em mountains in the east, but they are really just rolling hills to us westerners!! :face-icon-small-hap

Most mountain areas back east are either private land (i.e. Ski resorts) or park lands that do not permit off-trail snowmobiling. I grew up in upstate NY and the Adirondacks are potentially a tree rider's paradise. Not very high or crowned with granite spires but they're steep sided and timbered.

When I'm not snowmobiling in the winter I'm ice climbing and I went out to climb mt Washington last year in new Hampshire and I couldn't believe the potential for powder and tree riding yet I didn't see any sleds. Maybe its like fourth wolf said that its all private.

We have a lot of good backcountry riding, we don't have the wide open huge climbs that they have out west. There is some really good places out here that's for sure. Plenty of steep an deep woods riding if you know where to go. Looks like a lot of you guys out west are losing your great areas due to all the greenies. Definitely nothing here that is comparable to the rockies. It isn't just rolling hills that's for sure.

I have been to the east and the short answer is no....

Yes there is fun to be had on sleds, but the terrain and timeline is not the same.

If we could ride mt Washington and katadin, we would have comparable riding. Unfortunately for us, these places are limited, no motorized vehicles.
