One person is dead and at least one more injured after another deadly avalanche near Revelstoke, B.C.

According to the RCMP, the avalanche struck at 3:57 p.m. on Friday, one kilometre from Eagle Pass Peak on Eagle Pass Mountain.

A group of snowmobile drivers were hit by the slide. Rescuers are now attempting to confirm the size and number of the group to determine if any other riders were trapped.

RCMP Cpl. Dan Moskaluk told CTV News that the group may have been as large as ten people.

This is the second deadly slide in the area in less than a week.

Hoar frost layers like the ones in the Revelstoke area dont tend to heal themselves well. They will likely be an issue for the rest of the season. It is going to take a good rain to the top followed by a hard freeze or the spring thaw/freeze cycle before these layers are settled. DONT GO THERE TO RIDE THIS SEASON. If you gotta ride, Go to the coast, way better odds of stable snow.

The B.C. Coroners Service has also been advised and commenced its investigation, Moskaluk said

The avalanche — in the Eagle Pass area 15 kilometres west of Revelstoke — was of considerable size, police said.

Another major slide on March 13 — also in the Revelstoke area — killed two Alberta snowmobilers and injured 31 others as a group of 200 spectators watched an unofficial snowmobile event called the Big Iron Shootout."
