E-Line Question on cr500 vs cr250

I have a 2001 cr250 with a e-line stater add on and have been trying to find out if it will bolt onto my 1992 cr500???? before i break the seals and try it myself, would love to know due to I have recently picked up a 2017 Timbersled Raw 120 and going to put it on the cr500. Pretty stoked would be awesome to have that power aboard it. THANKS can anyone help???
 
I am not totally sure this will work mostly because of the stator cover. I have not had an eline in years. You can use the cr250 ignition system on a cr500 with modification to the backing plate but on the Eline I had for the 500 years ago it had an additional flywheel from a ducati that bolted onto the 500 flywheel then this big bulbous ignition cover with the winding in it that stuck out an additional inch. I am pretty sure this outer cover will not bolt onto the cr500. There is the panthera option that gives you 100watts, you can get it as a standalone or with the electric starter kit. Pretty sweet to have those heated grips and a light but heated grips can be handled through coolant and the light can be done with just battery packs.

For the 500 you need some sort of carb heat and I was unable to run spring snow without a tunnel cooler. Thermostat made the whole cooling system work.
 
Thanks for the info, I will have to just play with them, the 500 does only have about a inch clear between the stock cover and the pipe as it raps around near the cover, but the e-line on the 250 does only stick out from the case about an inch and a half. I have a sled for the powder days and pretty much wanted the bike for spring cond. when side hilling on the sled in the spring sucks, but I have always been a bike rider and my buddy got me into sleds about three years ago. Its been the hardest thing I've tried to tame so far. I'm 53 and live in north Idaho, couldn't stand to sit winters out, been riding bikes since six years old cant stop. So you say the thing over heats in spring even thou you are on top of the snow and not plowing through it? and on the carb icing has anyone tried a home made plastic shield with insulation zip tied some way closing off the carb on the non pipe side? Do you run the stock air filter with oil or not as with the fixed kit I received from Timbersled it came with an air filter sock, I haven't had a chance to even read instructions nor put the kit on yet, just want to be prepared for it all when i do get that first ride out. Tunnel cooler is the way to go, but it hung in there with a set of those oversized chineese radiators. In powder it doesn’t get hot at all in the spring on top of the snow it would heat up when I was ripping it wide open. Carb heater depending on what your spring temps are may not be needed but the carb heater with a thermostat and she runs happy all the time. I am running one radiator and an old refill bottle of that hippy hand soap my wife’s likes as an overflow bottle. I don’t think the radiator is needed at all now I normally have it turned off but the plan was run that in powder but we haven’t had any until this weekend so we will see. This is a new set up for this year for me and so far for the conditions we have had I have been able to keep low temps, last year I fought overheating all spring. The air box I cut the whole bottom out of, I tried to keep it closed and that is the wrong way to go. I tried a filter and ended up with a skinn only inside the air box on a homemade cage. The thing rips and I am a big guy I can not imagine me on any other bike. People complain about the vibrations but I ride a 500af as my singletracker and have another CR500 for ripping dunes so I live on the things and have been riding 500’s since 1988 so I don’t even know what they are talking about. It shakes the arthritis off my joints and makes me feel good. I think your going to love the snowbike as a dirtbiker, the learning curve is about 30 seconds and the snowbike will do exactly what you have imagined, dreamed, and YouTubed it can do.

Also the problem with the eline fit I believe will be the 4 bolts that hold the cover to the 500 motor does not have the same pattern as the 250 motor. All the internal backing plates with the ignition pickup and coil and flywheel are all usable with modification to the backing plate but would need the 500 ignition cover. 250 ignition gives you a little more upper rpm levels it gives you a little different ignition curve. I have one on my sand bike and it rips.
 
Your last question about covering the carb I think people have done, the guy from avid sells a neoprene jacket for the carb. I have electric start on mine and a 4 gallon desert tank with the lines for the tunnel cooler all fighting for the same real estate and there isn’t enough room to cover the carb it’s tight. The cooler lines run but sides of the carb plus the carb heater and the coolant lines for that...the carb is surrounded with hot water in hoses and it’s been working but I’m in California dealing with the Sierra cement so your conditions may vary...but I think Ive got this thing pretty dialed now. Yes I think the 500 may have been a little more work to get dialed but I think it was well worth it. I had the raw kit last year and it was good. I moved to a 137 just because I am a large man and thought that would work even better for me
 
Hey, Thanks for all the info. Was recently out off town and cant stand doing anything on my cell, but now back on the comp. so Thanks again great info. I was able to talk to a rep. at Baja Designs in Cali. that was supper helpful compared to the first kook I contacted there at sales the tech rep. totally told me the e-line kit should swap no problem due to Honda didn't change there side case design like KTM, Yamaha etc. he said the e-line puts out 140-160 watts and even dug up the install instructions and sent me them on an email, so i just need to go try it to be sure, will get back on that. I also told him that they should get back into making these things again due to the growing snowbike world. I was on vacation to So Cal and they are located in San Marcos Cal. so i was ready to drive over there and talk face to face to someone but called and got this guy by luck super helpful.
