DVD player for the truck

I am wanting to install a DVD player in my truck for the long drives this winter. Does anyone know if the in-dash units play while you are driving? I wanna keep the kiddo and whoever else is hitchin a ride entertained. What is a good, reliable brand. I have always liked Pioneer and I have their CD changer already.

Any help or advice would be nice. Thanks

I run the pioneer in dash with navigation. It runs fine rolling down the road. The Porno tends to make people frown at you when you roll by. BTW, the Pioneer also can run dual channels so you can run a second set of screens in back if you want too.

I have a clarion 7" touchscreen with ipod and SIRIUS controls and I like it. Could also hook a backup camera for hitchin to the trailer. Can also hook up game console i.e. ps2/3 if you wanted. Friends have Alpine and Pioneer units and are happy with them as well. Shop that installed mine disabled the parking break switch, easy to do, just hook switch wires together.

I am setting up the appointment tonight for mine:

Kenwood DNX7100 all in one DVD, Nav (by Garmin), Sirius, Bluetooth, etc.
Kenwood KCA-BT100 bluetooth adapter.
already have a Sirius receiver, but that will be installed too.
Can-bus adapter for steering wheel controls in my Mega to work, and Infinity adapter so it all just plugs into the stock system. Installer has already said he got busted once (how, who knows) for making the deck play movies while driving, but he said "this website might have the info on it", and it literally is just grounding one wire.

The deck is expandable as well, and someday I'll put in headrest monitors...but, that's another ~$700 that I'm not spending right now.

I started my audio-life running Alpine stuff, and switched to Kenwood...I've always bought the eXcelon stuff till now, as the eXcelon version of the 7100 doesn't have built in Nav, and only has a better converter which I couldn't tell the difference in at the store. Reviews on the net about the system I've conjured up are all good, except the GUI interface on the deck...they say it's not inherantly intuitive and takes a bit to learn, but all the stuff works very well and the screen has a great picture...we'll see I guess. :)

all-in-all, looking at about $2000 installed...kinda high, as I can buy all the stuff on ebay for about $1500 NIB, but ebay doesn't have a reputation in the local town that they care about.

if you have a double din i would take advantage of it.i installed a alpine dvd with a 7 inch screen, double din.looked awesome.i also had to wire it into the lights with a toggle switch.basically you have to turn the lights on and off, then toggle up and down on the switch, and presto dvds play while driving!just have to bypass the saftey feature.i've also heard of people doing the same but instead of using the lights, it leads into the brake wire.plenty of info online about it for specific vehicles. matt

I have an Eclipse DVD player in my truck. It runs the front and rear screens. It is kind of funny to have a remote when you are sitting 2 feet away from the dash. I guess it does come in handy if you let the rear passenger have control of the system.

Laptop + power inverter here... works great, no need to bypass any safety stuff though I don't watch videos while driving.

I will admit to though.

i have the touch screen in dash alpine dvd player with ipod hook up in my truck. it has the video bypass so that you can watch it while you are driving. have the sirius sat. radio as well. the ipod hook up on those are pretty sweet you can go through all of your playlists and artists on the touch screen, makes the drives a lot nicer!!

went to set up the appointment tonight...owner wasn't there and salesman quoted me $2440 installed. "um, no thanks." Parts was $1800, so that was $600 install for something I can do myself. The guy actually told me with a straight face: "we have to modify the dash bezel to fit the unit in place, so that's like $300 of the cost." I was born in the dark, but it wasn't last night... (yes, I know the bezel must be modified...I run a cnc machine all day long, I think I can manage a little cutting on a piece of plastic).
