Duramax question

I know that this is not the correct thread for this question, but i need to have as many people as possible help with this issue.

02 duramax, turned key, electrical cycled, everything allright, then nothing. I mean no door chime, dash lights, power to windows, headlights, no starting, no nothing. My question is this, is there a master relay or fuse that will control the entire truck? Any sugestions would be welcomed.

Check your grounds first from your batteries to frame and block. Make sure to check the simple stuff first. Do you have any performance upgrades to your Dmax? Chips, tunners, anything to mess with the ECM. If you do you may have an ECM issue ive seen it alot:eek:. But go through your batter connections and check your fuses first it may be something simple:cool:

Interesting..... How has the truck run lately? Does it run top notch or does it seem to be low on power at times? Im still thinking it may be a ECM issue since everything quit at once.

On my 2002 Duramax, there are two fuse panels; one under the hood and one on the left side of the dash (driver's side, between the steering wheel and the door). There must be a bazillion fuses between the two. Once you verify the batteries and grounds are ok, that would be the next place I would look.

Checked all the fuses in both fuse boxes. It may be the ecm, but I hope not. Truck has ran fine, no indication of anything wrong. Hoping that there was a master relay or fuse that I missed. Owners manual doesnt really explain the circuits of all the relays and fuses. Thanks for all the replys.

Yeap, i'd check grounds, make sure relays/fuses are seated in right.

Also check the battery... voltage across terminals should be around 12v off, drop down to 10-ish when cranking, then bump up to 13-14 or so when the truck's running... if the alternator's not charging the battery, i could see how somethingl ike that could happen... truck runs out of electrical power and dies...

it will not be the ECM--you've lost all power it has to be battery cables or ground---GM battery cables on the side are noted for loosening up---re ck them and tighten all----do you have power to any of the fuses ???

Its not likely the ECM but i have seen Dmax's just shut off and you get nothing no lights, nothing, and one was an ECM issue. I know like a dozen or so people who have Dmax's. But like i said before make sure your grounds are tight and your other cables, the side post design is not the best and have a tendency to come loose alot like he was saying.

He is right we have had lots of gm vehicles side post batteries cause this prob. Take all 4 cables off the batteries and clean them this will prob fix your problem. Most of the time its a ground But from the outside they will look fine.

Make sure you replace the stock batteries this year with new ones its time. Dont go cheap a good choice would be a interstate or another Delco.

Fuseable link/

Do they still have a fuseable link to the battery terminal as the older vehicles did?

^^^ exactly wut wyoming ta said. I have a 98 gmc and every couple of years or so it starts doing this, sometimes when im driving even it will just quit and have nothing for juice. It has done it before where you turn the key ahead and everything comes on fine but the second you try to engage the starter it kicks out and loose all power. Tightening up the terminals does help but the best thing to do is for $30 you can buy new terminal bolts and the little spacer that the bolt goes through and attaches to the cables. This sure fixed my truck. Best of luck

to check for connection problems, take a jumper cable from the neg. on the battery to a good ground on the engine, this will tell you if the ground cable has a prob. if you can jump it with another outfit you have a pos. cable prob. after checking the ground

My very first thought was connections as well... had this problem on my truck a while back, corrosion on the positive cable turned out to be the ultimate cause. Full power going to a large draw and then nothing means you've got a short for sure.

good luck:beer;

my guess is battery related/ connection problem. even if there was a ECM issue, the starter would still crank. seeign how your door chime and lights go away that tells me that your batterys are probably dead. left my lights on one day, same deal. charge 'em up and see what ya got.

just out of curiosity did this happen after a rainy day/ or running thru a mudpuddle? one of our work trucks did the same thing ..2 days after a big rain..was dry out just sitting at a lite idling and died..no electrical power afterwards..ended up blowing a 20 amp ecm 1 fuse in the main fuse box under the hood...

Thanks

It was a friends Duramax. It turned out to be dirty cable connection to the battery! Most of you were spot on. Thanks for the input from all.:)
