I am service manager in a gm dealership, today I met with my AVM (area vehicle manager over warranty). They are getting much harder to get along with over mods on diesels. While in the store he blocked powertrain warranty on 1 with exhaust and another with a chip. He walked through my shop and lot looking for mod trucks, either lift kits or powered up diesels. I don't agree with it all, but the manufacturer is tieing dealerships hands regarding this. One of these vehicles had the injectors replaced about 6 months ago and he is going to charge them back for it, over $3,000!! I spoke with the service managers from the Ford and Dodge stores and they are going through similar things regarding their diesels.
I have heard all the arguments regarding the SEMA act, but unless you are willing to spend thousands of dollars on legal fees it will be an uphill fight. In these 2 cases he had the warranty blocked before he left my store, it took about 10 minutes, and it will post on VISS which goes out to every dealer in the nation trying to submit warranty on those trucks.

my friend that works at the local gm stealer said a guy here is goin to court with gm cause all the injectors need to be replaced (yrs/mileage within warranty) and gm wont replace any... the truck has been sittin in the yard for a yr waitin and waitin

They probably would replace diesel injectors on an otherwise stock truck, but they wouldn't warranty any tranny, transfer case, or axle component. I have seen that before already.

the LB7 injector's failing is just due to poor design plain and simple, i have no worries about fighting over warrentee, my truck is 100,000km past haha. but voiding warrentee because of exhaust or intake is plain retarded.

How can you go back to a customer who had the work done 6 months ago and charge them? That's ridiculous. No wonder GM is going under.

So, whatever happened to proving whatever mods, be it minor or major, that were the result of a particuliar failure? If something breaks and mods had nothing to do with it, what then?

I HATE dealing with the dealer. When I have to do so now, I take some pleasure in knowing that I imported more than one truck in the last couple years, thus screwing the dealers here before they could screw me.

Iv got an 08 d-max. Local dealer calls me one day about something (forget what it was), and while we were talking he tells me that since i went to 285/75 tires that voids any and all factory powertrain warranty. He's great to deal with and i know i won't have a warranty problem at his dealership. He just wanted to make sure i knew that if something ever happened to the truck while I was away and had to use a different dealership, that i was aware of this. I kept the original tirers/rims in case something serious ever happend, but still...

hell, i just changed out my transfer case , luckly the transmission shop is owned by one of my customers as he only charged me $2700 for a rebuilt, the case was dry, totally junk, went back to dealer who has done all my service since new including 3 weeks prior to transfer case crashing, and all they said " we're suppose to check all your fluids when we do servicing, but what do you expect for a $85 oil, filter & lube change" so i have bought some jack stands and going back to the ole farm boy thing of doing it myself. feel better now.

GM pulled their money right out of the dealer's account. They have their's and could give a crap how the dealer recovers it. But it will be up to the dealer to recover it, not GM.

Yep. Lots of people build good trucks. Brand loyalty is stupid. Jerk me around and it will be the last GM I own.

Now if only the government believed in a free market and didnt force people to fund poorly managed companies.

this is bad. i don'y see myself giving any of my money to gm except for when i pay my taxes. let the ****ers go under

So you guys think that if you buy your programmer, crank it right to the deal and spit the tranny guts onto the pavement....you should be covered?

Doesn't sound like anything new to me...if aftermarket parts cause a failure, you're not covered. To think the not-so-big 3 won't be tightening the belt on what that means exactly, is wishful at best.
