"Dumb" chain pitch question.

I have a 72 pitch and a 74 pitch chain. The 74 chain fits the gear setup that I want to try, but it seems to have a lot of slack, and the 72 chain doesn't fit at all. Now here's the "Dumb" part, is there such a thing as a 73 pitch chain, I don't think there is but I thought I'd check before putting it back together. Thanks in advance.

Chains are only available in even pitch #'s (as far as I know). If you look at a Polaris gearing chart for your specific chaincase. you'll see numerous gearing combos that will not work for the reasons you've found - chain either too tight or too loose.

When you say the 72 doesn't fit at all, do you mean with or without the tensioner in place.

Reason I ask is that I've ground on the "backside" of the tensioner before to make things work,

Just a thought

Won't go on at all. The gear combo's I want to try are 19/41, and 22/39. I had a 19/43 combo on with the 74 pitch chain, and the slack looked good. Now there is just a little more of it. Anyone know how much slack is too much? This is on a 04 700 RMK.

w/respect to the 22/39 that sounds like a job for a 76 pitch chain.

the Edge's and 2007 700 Dragon's come with 23/39 stock and a 76 pitch chain.

Calculate the ratio (22/39=1.77) and see if you can come up with a different combo of sprockets to achieve the same end result and hopefully with LESS of a 'dogleg " in the chain.

Hope this helps
