drop more weight or gain more hp?

hello everyone would like some opinions on what the next step should be. cant really make up my mind.whats done already -powerclaw track/wrp running boards/lightweight battery/westcoast front end/cf handlebars/simms skis. my question is should i go and lose some more weight like skinz seat and exhaust? or start on the clutching ,powercomanders and the such . i am nervous about anything clutching as this can turn into chasing rabbits down dark holes. as far as riding style and location. i ride mostly at elevation(8000/11000 ft) mostly deep powder and trees.(boondocking meadows) not a lot of hill climbing but it does happen when the conditions here in Colorado allow it. I am 5,9 160 lbs.If clutching is the answer then maybe who to go with and also where to start(springs, weights, spiders?) thanks a lot everyone SG

If you are going to do the clutching I would decide if you are going to do the power upgrades first. You will have to redo the clutching if you upgrade the power setup. I say go with an exhaust intake PCV and then get the clutching.

You can do the skinz seat to lose weight but I don't think you feel that weight loss as much. The problem is how front heavy the sled is. The seat takes weight off of the back. I took a lot of weight off of the back of mine and it just made me realize even more how much weight is on the front end of my sled.

I've never worried about weight on Yamaha's there heavy because there strong and made good.for the money your thrown at it to lose a few pounds you could Turbo it.

Snowgood
I would go exhaust,PCV, and Clutching and not worry about the seat. As the others say taking more weight off the back of the sled can cause an even more unbalanced sled. There are quite of few guys on here that have the clutching worked out pretty well on the yamahas Scott with OFT, Tom with Hartman Inc. and lower alititudes Allen with Ulmer Racing.

The exhaust is a good area because you can get HP increases as well as weght saving at the same time.

No amount of weight reduced will add to the fun factor like boost. You could throw a couple 50lb sand bags on there and it wouldn't slow ya down with a turbo. Save your pennies and get some boost.

thanks

thanks alot everyone, good info sounds like i need to just save the pennies and go with the boost. apex jeff this radiator delete you mention is this the front cooler and if so what is in its place or just looped back through? have you heard of any overheating issues? any weight i can get off the front end would b great. thanks once again everyone SG

I guessed you have a Nytro? If so I think cr racing makes a delete kit. Two hoses and an Apex coolant bottle. If you run scratchers and have enough snow, overheating should not be a problem. The radiator and fan are right below the upper steering mount.

Boost the sled!

I have the clutch set up that bholmate is referring to from Scott w/OFT. By doing the clutching and dropping 1 tooth on the top gear I decide boost is not necessary. I also added a Skinz ultra Q. Very happy with the performance. Its not boosted but I can have alot of fun for the extra $4k. :face-icon-small-ton

Take your stock nitro mtx don't change anything and just add a MCX 180 turbo kit. Then turn the key and have fun.

Hey Guys, we all know the benefits of BOOST,but the OP did'nt ask about that. Sometimes the expense is outa reach for some.:focus::

Couldn't agree more. I went the route of dropping weight and getting a good handling suspension first and good running boards and now I am boosting it. Don't regret it for a second. If you want to be the point and shoot guy all the two stroke guys talk about go straight to the boost. If you want a good sled get the other stuff first.

intake and exhaust

once again thanks everyone for the info its really good info. as far as changing the intake and exhaust and getting pcv.would all this change again if a push turbo was to be purchased later or is it in addition. not really familiar with turbos either other than big gains in hp. im taking it as the pcv would b in conjunction with the turbo? thanks apex jeff found that delete kit. was this very labor intensive? clatlia i could not find any clutching on oft's site is this something i call them personaly for and was it all through them. and yes sorry its a 09 nytro thanks SG

Radiator delete kit not too hard to install, just take off cowling ,seat, and pull tank. Any time you work with coolant you make a mess, oh well it cleans up. Also a good time to install a coolant tee and guage. The push turbo is a straight forward install, and you can use an aftermarket header. If you don't boost I think the Excell header and exhaust puts the nytro right at 149hp as I seem to remember from dyno charts. Good luck!

If your sled is a 2010 or newer i would install boost. Then worry about front end skid and all the other mod's. Your going to spend 3k in no time anyway. Power is what the nytro is lacking. they will always be heavy.

I dealt directly with Scott (pre Rick buying OFT). All the parts are Yami. Scott has done quite a bit of testing and found what works. Send him (scmurs) a PM or give him a call. I know Rick has him busy stocking shelves, washing dishes, making cookies and practicing his under-water basket weaving :face-icon-small-win but I am sure one or the other can get you what you need.
