Drop Brackets?? Are they worth it??

Ive got an 03.5 1m 151 900. I was wondering who is all running drop brackets. If so what kind and why. What is the purpose of drop brackets? I've heard they are needed if using a deeper lug track. Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks
jim

I had the Sled junky drop brackets on my 05 King Cat. I bought them used so there wasn't any instructions (lots of fun:rolleyes:), got a lot of help off here tho. I liked them alot, it keeps the front down when you get on the gas. Seemed like it wouldn't trench as bad also. I did put a 2.5 camo on it at the same time (could also be why it didn't trench). Sorry got to rambling, Clint

I made my own, Not as aggressive as the Sledjunky's but work great! Others on here will not run them, But on the 151 like I have it works! I also altered the front suspension and the rear skid front shock to compensate for the added lift. It makes the whole machine more tippy for side hilling.

I don't like them at all. I feel that the ruin the handling of the sled in deep powder. I can see that they would be great in spring snow or harder snow conditions. If you do buy some try to find a used set to save some money incase you don't like them.

I ran the sledjunkys for a few years then a guy offered me top $ for them so I sold them, I got a slightly lower set from Todd Oliver and I like them better.

with the Sled junkys you get very little ski lift that is great for climing but when "playing" and ditch banging you dont get the "fun" ski lift.

I looked ant the HRP ones they seem to mount the rear of the skid mre forward rather than back like the SJ or the Olivers so I'm not sure how they act.

personally I would stay with the Olivers or the HRP the SJ's have a 2" bearing at the top that replaces a 5" idler. and I never liked that setup. I drilled a hole down 1.25 inches and mounted a 4.25 wheel that placed the track at the same location and gave a rubber to rubber contact tha I like much better. It was sort of a puzzle to put together but they worked flawlessly. there is a 3" rubber wheel kit that SJ sells but it puts the paddles way too close to the top of the tunnel for my liking.

good luck!

Just remember when you drop the back, you have to drop the front(of the skid) to match! You really don't want the back of the skid on the ground, and the front of the skid three inches in the air, when you sit on the sled, it just collapses the rear, and you have that much less travel, and its kinda hard on the rear shock.

I like them

I'm running the 05 162" King Cat. I put on the drop brackets and simmons skiis at the same time so it's a little tough to say exactly how much of the handling is attributed to just the brackets, but...

My buddy has the same sled but purely stock. My sled can leave his on a trail because of the greatly improved turning/cornering ability (even if we trade sleds so it's not riding ability). Haven't had a chance to really ride it in the powder or hill climbs yet this year to see how it does there.

So, I don't know, maybe 50% can be attributed to the skiis and 50% to the drop brackets. My advice is get them. I bought the Sled Junky's brackets myself.

If you do decide to do it, PM me - I have a bit of advice for you.

I run Sled Junkies drop brackets

They do two things for sure, improve aproach angle and lift the running boards out of the snow. I don't think ski lift is a good thing in deep snow or steep climbs. It might be fun, but going over backwards isn't.

I have an 02 ac 800 and i put a 162x16 track on it with anti-ratchets and a big wheel kit but now my rear heat exchanger digs into the track. I have been told that i could put the drop brackets on to fix the problem. any suggestions.

is there a website for this todd oliver person

drop brackets

not as much on a lower h.p. 1m, but when you start throwing down some power they are a must, mine ski lifts so bad its crazy! I wish I could keep them down more, cant imagine what it would be like w/o them.
