so i need to put a new bearing on my driveshaft, thats what i would call it. Its the shaft that the secondary clutch bolts to have the motor out for rebuild so it will be quite easy, but my question is this, how do i go about getting the bearing out do i have to take the motor mount off then it comes with the motor mount, thanks for your help

It's been a while since I did it on mine but I think the bearing is off-set. You loosen the retainer and twist it to "unlock" it from the shaft. Like I said it's been a while but I think I'm right.

Thats the driven shaft and I think you can just take the two retainer bolts out and take the bearing out the pto side, it's either the twisting collar of a set screw collar on the bearing. You work on that thing more than you ride it! You gotta quit breaking things!

i do work on it more than i ride it, i havent rode it since i blew it up last january with steve, finally got it rebuilt and should be good to go to cooke after the first of the year. thanks guys. and i also got one more question, the reason im replacing it is because i dont know how but went to grease it last year and broke the zirk off, can i drill the old zirk out and tap it for a bigger zerk or would i be better off spending 60 bucks and getting the whole new motor mount?

pretty sure i will drill it out, depending on how cheap meatman will give me one, it is christmas time so maybe hes just a giving person

You won't have any trouble just drilling it out and putting a new zert in. When are you guys heading for Cooke, Steve has caller I.D. on his phone so he never answers my calls!

well i no longer work for them guys, so prolly wont be going with them. Im prolly gunna head out there the 6th or 7th, that or island park not sure yet.

dont start a thread then change it

Diggler thanks for the bad rep. I was replying to your thread how to change a bearing.Your thread should have been (If I ever get my old sled running I think I will go to yellowstone, maybe) You dont even know the difference between a driveshaft and jackshaft !! I thought I was hellping you!! hope your bearing is stuck on and you wonder how to get it off !!

well it isnt seized on and im sorry that i didnt know the difference i was simply asking how to get my bearing out. and you say to wrap it in canvas and cut it out with a torch seems a little overkill to me. sorry i guess i just didnt see that useful. but theres some good rep for ya. and how did i change the thread??

to change jackshaft bearing

I have seen jackshaft bearings rusted to the shaft. The easyist way I have found to remove them is to take a canvas and cover engine area and frount of fuel tank to protect from sparks. I then nip bearing with cutting tourch. Now the bearing will slide off, takes about 5 minutes

well i read your original post wrong and i though you were saying to put canvas on the sides of the sled. heat always helps everything, thanks for the 3 bad reps to...real cool

GEt a 1/8 inch left handed drill bit and use that. Most of the time it wil bit and back the broken screw/bolt/zerk right out.
