driveshaft bearing question

Hi,
How do you remove the speedometer-side driveshaft bearing?
I have the driveshaft out, but bearing appears (?) to be pressed on.....
Is there a source for these from local parts stores, or does it need to be ordered through Polaris?
Thanks,
Ron

bearing

Yep, pressed on. Should be available at a bearing supply. Look for a number on it. I have cut them off with a die grinder but you need to be VERY careful. Probably better to get you a new bearing and have a machine shop switch them for you. After it's installed, I pop the outer seal off the new bearing to allow grease into it easier when you lube the zerk on the angle adapter.

Thanks for the info!

I was hoping to get a metal support of some kid behind it and press it off myself (have press), otherwise getting someone to do it (machine shop) sounds like a great idea!

You can get a replacement set from any dealer that is set up with Western Power Sports (WPS). They sell the All-Balls Racing bearing set for both the jackshaft and driveshaft including all seals etc. you need. They retail for about $20 per set.

Bearing

I've just used a two or three jaw puller. Mount the other end in a vise and locate the center of the puller bolt in the little detent on the end of the shaft.

Use a deep socket that's just large enough to fit over the driveshaft to tap the new one on.

They aren't square faced on the outer race so it makes it hard to find at a bearing supply house. There's a guy on HCS that I bought a set that includes the jackshaft bearings as well in a kit. Has the little o-rings and everything.

I'd like to try pulling the bearing off myself.
When we took off the bolt at the end there was a round aluminum piece still left in the center (in the driveshaft, behind the splined gear which came off when the bolt was removed). The aluminum piece is stuck in there, if it simply pops out I'll try to pry it out.

I hope that makes sense.....
