Driveshaft bearing install

Not sure if this has been covered or not, so here goes...
I'm in the process of installing a new driveshaft bearing (speedo side) because it failed to the point that the bearing wore into the bearing holder. When installing the bearing should the lock collar be set and tightened when the driveshaft is out, or after the drive shaft has been put in place in the tunnel? If its set when the drive shaft is out, do you just slide the bearing assembly on the driveshaft as far as it will go and lock it down? If its set while in the tunnel, is it locked down before or after you tighten the bottom gear in the chaincase?

Thanks for any help. Will post pics of the bearing tomorrow evening.

Don't lock it down until it everything is back together. Rotate the driveshaft a couple turns by hand, then apply a little locktite to the set screw, rotate the collar forward and lock it down.
