Drive Shaft or dealer shaft?

I bought my 08xp from Gonnason's in April. I got the recall notice, so I set up the recall work there. I then get a letter from Gonnason's that they no longer sell or repair sleds. They told me to pick somewhere else to get the warranty work.

I then call Ride Motorsports and had my name "put on the list". They told me that they were going to work on their customers' sleds first, then get to "the others".

I was number 24 on the list.

It has now been a few weeks, and they say I am number 9. Now it might not get done until "sometime in December".

I really only want one shaft, not two.;)

I have 130 miles on the sled, (2 trips to Baker in April). My questions are...
since I rode the hell out that thing in April, is it even a problem? Wouldn't the shaft have already broken?

How many of you here in Washington have had the work done, and how many are still waiting?

so its going to take them a month to get 9 sleds done? If it takes that long I don't know if I would take my sled there

graveler how many shafts does webb have in stock? is there service dept up to speed yet? its to bad that gonnasons flooded the other dealers with there problems.

This a fact of life for Ski Doo and has been for the past 38 years I have been buying and riding them. The Ski Doo warranty work payments to dealers by the manufacturer ddoesn't pay the dealers enough to cover the dealers cost on it. The dealers have to take care of new customers, assemble sleds to sell, etc, before they do warranty work on sleds not purchased from them or they go broke.

The driveshafts are coming in slowly. Most dealerships are only getting a few at a time. You'll just have to be patient. Get on the list somewhere, and you'll get it done.

Christ, I'm glad I'm not in the industry. I would have thought people would be happy that Ski-Doo stepped up and agreed to replace every single driveshaft on every sled. I can think of a few other issues from other manufacturers over the past few years where we weren't so lucky.....

You also have to remeber that they have there own customer base to work on as well as set ups for new customers. I am sure every dealer wants every dollar however it is a fine line to make everybody happy.

Rob.

That's because BRP knows that it only takes them X amount of hours to do the work, and that most dealers just "milk-it" for an extra X+ amount of hours. I had to have the rewind starter replaced on my 04 Summit. The book charge was 1 hour, but the tech. did it in 26 minutes. I was standing by him the whole time, incase I would ever have to do it in the field...they ended up only charging 1/2 hour labor, plus parts. My guess is that some work is more than book and some is less and it probably evens out in the end.

Being a customer doesn't matter. I took my 08 in the first week in Sept to Motoplex in Lynnwood were I bought it and they just got it done last week. As already posted the wait is for the part itself.

It is good to know Artic Cat is a perfect company that never makes any mistakes. I'll keep that in mind if BRP ever stops making great mountain sleds.

Unfortunately, this is not just a BRP issue, ALL the OEM's stiff the techs and the dealers on warranty work. This is the reason dealers don't want to jump for joy to perform "purchased somewhere else warranty work". The oe's pay alot less than the job takes so that dealers don't try to "Upsell" warranty work. It's kind of a bad deal when the selling dealer can't perform your warranty work anymore, but I can't blame them for putting their customers to the front of the line.

As for the 26 minutes on the recoil, if it had taken the tech 2 hours instead of 26 minutes, I'm sure you wouldn't be begging the dealer to accept an extra hours' worth of money.

All those shafts are on back order and are limited release items. We at Paulsons ordered 80 and got 14 in so far. Also, The new XP belt 417300377 is on Back order until mid December and at that time they will be limited release as well.
It's not the dealers but a BRP issue.

Their wrench is Jeff, the former owner of Jeff's Performance in Eburg. And, no, they don't have shafts in stock. I'm on the waiting list there, just like everywhere else.

wow, I would think you would want to make the non customers happy too, that would probably get them to buy a sled from you. kinda how it works in the car business

Just Ride it..

I have almost 2000 miles on my XP, Yes I got the recall notice.. The fact is that very few are actually breaking, They just have no way of determinig which ones have the bad welds on them.. I might take mine in around Feb when everyone else is done worring about it...
