Drive shaft clamp required?

Heading to Valemount on the 27th with a buddy. Didn't get a chance to grab the driveshaft update. Have 20km on my sled. Is the update required?

No, you can ride it, but it might break. There have been a few that have broken with it, but clamp seems to help.

it depends on whether you want to ride the sled in constant paranoia of the driveshaft snapping at any moment leaving you stranded, or if you want to actually enjoy riding the sled. you will have to answer that question for yourself, but i would highly recommend the happy face clamp over the others

Where are you located? I have an extra clamp that is brand new if you are interested. I am located in Edmonton. PM me if you want to ride worry free!

Do you want to spend the time worrying that the shaft will go and lose your day and the have your buddies spend all their time getting you back to the truck? Or just ride and have fun?

I lucked out with 100 boosted miles on mine (no issues) before I opted to by the clamps. My next door neighbor just bought a new '13 stocker off the floor and the shaft exploded 12 miles. Parts are 2-3 weeks out. He is justifiably livid. Heck of a gamble to ride without.

No its not required, but you have about a 20% chance it will fail. I have 600 miles on mine with no clamps. Not really sure if the clamps really that much of a help either. There are starting to be more and more reports of failures with the clamps installed. IMO if the shaft is defective it will fail and the clamp fix is just a stop gap measure polaris released to try and calm the panic.

In my opinion buy the Happy Face Collar. Couple of reasons, I have the Polaris Clamp and honestly not impressed…it can easily slide down the shaft and not hold the joint like it’s suppose to. With as much vibration and snow being on your driveshaft, it wouldn’t take much for it to start slipping.

The Happy Face Clamp goes around the entire end of the where the shafts come together, making it almost impossible to slide from one direct to another. Use some silicon to help water being trapped in between the clamp and steel shaft. Check it after each ride and make sure the bolts are still tight.

I just had a friend pick up a brand new pro at the dealership two days ago. Went to back it out of his truck, got halfway.down the ramp and she gave out. 0.1km on it. That's ****ty luck. He took a week off to go riding. Oh well, can't win em all. I told him not to load it up until it had clamps on.

he should be walking right back into the dealer and demanding his money back/or another sled

i have one question in regards to the OP...

why wouldn't you put the clamp on? It takes 10 minutes and its pretty much required IMO.

Ya I picked one up from my dealer in Whitecourt. Didn't think they would be open on the 24th. Going to install it tomorrow. Definately the right choice, don't want to be stranded somewhere.

you now have increased your odds

strange though...if i was a dealer in your town you would have had voice mail messages steady with me telling ya to get the sled equipped with the clamps instead of me waiting for you to drop by..just knowing that riding was going to be a for certain over the holidays..
