Drive bearing replacement I read on some posts to remove the dust shield that faces the speedo on the cluch side drive bearing so the greese can get in better. Is this good bad or ugly ??? anyone do this?
Do not remove it. Not only will grease not stay where it is supposed to, water gets in and ruins the bearing in short order. Cat tried something like that by adding holes in the shield in 2001 and all the bearings failed in ridiculous fashion.
Thanks for the info, I didn't what to have to replace the bearing again or wreck something this time. I got lucky this time I rode it out 30 miles after the bearing went .
