Drinking and sledding

Yup, Usually guys seem to be getting killed on the way home from poker runs over driving headlights under the influence. First season I was of legal drinking age I had 2 beers and the rush on the snowmobile intensified the buzz and scared the crap outta me. Never touched booze while riding since.

We used to do it all the time.
Any time we'd stop, we would pass the schnaaps around.
Wouldn't really feel it until you went inside someplace warm, then it hit you
like a ton of bricks!

Good times!

I don't get it....isn't this sport risky enough? Seeing a lot of this lately.

Put it down to idiots and low lifes that need the bottle to be a man when out riding or doing whatever. Simple as that.

At the end of the day, by all means do what you want, but during the day or while driving, riding, sawing wood, whatever, WTF would anyone need alcohol?

funny watching the cool guys...... freezing to death shaking like a queer eating a weiner trying to drink at the bottom of a hill.

..I don't do it anymore..But most people I know that drink & ride do it very responsibley....I couldn't..:wine::beer;:(

ECA- Perfect! I have been reading the "annual discussions" about boozing and have been trying to find a way to articulate my personal view. I think that what you finished with, is spot on.

I don't know why you "couldn't", but you are a good example of a responsible sledder. You know your limits and you'll operate within them, by your own accord. Kudos to you for your restraint and being open and honest in sharing you personal choice.

Its about personal control/restraint. If I enjoy a bevvy, I push the right handed fun lever less not more. I know that there are those that don't agree, but don't judge me until you have ridden with me. When I ride with "the boys" we spend time riding, not drinkin'. However on a putt putt day I may enjoy a barleypop. I don't think that makes me a menace to society.

It is not illegal to drive after drinking, it is illegal to drive when you are drunk.

Lots of people that get arrested for DWUI have that same opinion. I don't know about other states, but you can be arrested for DWUI on a sled in the State of Wyoming. If you’re involved in an accident, you can be arrested at a much lower alcohol concentration then the “presumed” legal limit in the State of Wyoming. The mast majority of sled / atv fatal accidents around here have involved alcohol. Don’t get me wrong, I like my beer as much as the next guy. BUT it has it’s time and place. I don’t really care if you want to put yourself at risk, it’s the people around you that don’t have the choice. Be responsible. Is it worth prison if you injure or kill someone else?

If they are arrested for DWUI, then they are drunk, and should be arrested. I'm more concerned about the poeple who think its cool to scream up the trail at warp speed than someone who has trace amounts of alcohol in their system. My point is, its all about being responsable for yourself and others, and alcohol consumption is not the only thing that makes people stupid.

& besides the danger of it, I found that our group, by the time we had about 4-6 beers in us, were spending more time sittin' on the sled than riding!! A bar stool's a HELL of a lot cheaper perch than a sled seat:D:D

I love sleddin and I love beer but i don't mix the two. Afterwards on the drive home i have a few or 10 ( i don't drive though)

i believe there is a time and place for drinking and it is not when riding. i am out there to enjoy myself and alcohol is not included. you don't need to drink to have fun. i can respect those that may have one with lunch but that is their decision. i have no respect for people who think they have to have multiple alcoholic beverages while riding. i can understand knowing your limits & respect the people that know theirs.
it is your decision to drink & ride but it is not my decision to end up hurt or even dead because you had too much to drink. its one thing to hurt yourself but its another to hurt someone else. i don't want to pay for your mistake.

sorry, rant is over..... :face-icon-small-dis
