Drilling holes in a Diamon S C/M sub frame?

Hi Guys

I picked up a used Diamond S chrome moly sub frame and I need to drill some holes in it for mounting the plastics. I notice that some of the upper tubes are a smaller diameter, are there any risks of weaking the sub frame when drilling the mounting holes? Or am I over-thinking this to much!:face-icon-small-con

When installing mine I drilled the holes for the plastic with no adverse effect. It has been 3 years now. That sub frame is at least twice as strong as the stock-er it is one tough piece of iron.

Sounds good, thanks guys!
I opened up a couple of the holes on the bottom, so that I could install a couple nut-sertz for the skid plate. I noticed that you need to use good drill bits!

Hey Bill,

Does the Diamond S subframe look stronger? Do you think its worth the $$

Thanks

Looking at it there is a lot less gussets on it compared to the OEM. It gains it's strengh by using the stronger chrome moly.
It's tough stuff to drill through, when drilling the holes for mounting the plastics, I broke a few smaller drill bits and I'm usually pretty easy on drill bits.
For the 3/8" holes, (for the plastic push pins) I ended up using a Rotobroch bit. A Rotobroch bit has several cutting teeth and is similar to a hole saw.

I think that it is probably worth the money. It is a fairly complex piece and I could see how it would take a fair amount of time to build one. I mainly bought it for the weight savings, as part of my plan to shave weight off of the front end.

Thanks Bill,

I sent them a email but have not heard back? I'll give it a couple of days. Might be better just to call them.

Yeah I've found the easiest way to contact them, is to give them a call.

Hey Allan

Not sure if your running a sway bar or not, but they don't come with pads for the sway bar frame bushing mounts (or at least mine didn't).
It's a non-issue for me though, since I pitched the sway bar the first year a had the sled!
