Drew a Bighorn elk tag. unit 39. please help!!!

So i drew an archery elk tag on unit 39, northern bighorns. i'm not looking for sweets spots, i'll try and find those my self. I would just like to know a general idea of what i can expect on this hunt. Quality of bulls, number of bulls, alot of pressure, etc.. ANY help would be appreciated. thanks!!

I can trade info for pretty much any unit in utah, and have hunted most all the gunnison basin deer units in colorado. so i'm willing to help out anyone in any of these units in exchange for some insight to the 39 archery elk hunt. i am debating whether or not to turn this tag back in and get my points back...

not really lookin for tips, or areas. Just wondering if anyone has been on this unit and could give me an idea about what to expect as far as... Quality, numbers, terrain, pressure from other hunters, etc..

I have personally never hunted it but I know guys that have and brought home some very respectable bulls.

I would hunt with you but you STOLE MY AREA!! lol JK I drew my sec. choise 40 instead. Lots of elk there for archery season. Some nice bulls too. I don't think there are many monster bulls but alot of good bulls. PM Aug he hunted archery in it last year. Unlike many areas in the horns, area 39's trails are easily accessible by a four wheel drive truck. Many people use ATV's. Get on sheep mountain road drive to the top and you will see all sorts of good small open areas. But they will all most likely be to far to pursue elk when you spot them from up top. It is more of a scouting lookout. Bout all I can think of.

I would hunt the Cook Stove Basin or Bucking Mule areas there are some good bulls in the area and every once in a while a real nice one. It is very accessable, come when the rut is really on. The area is not the biggest area so there will be some pressure but should'nt be to bad just be willing to walk and you can get away from some pressure. Good luck

You should have a very successful hunt there as long as you dont just weekend warrior it. There is getting to be more and more other archery hunters but not horrible. Terrain isnt too bad. theres a few good sized canyons but nothing you can't pack one out of. Not sure how big a bull your lookin for but our elk herd is very large and can guarantee you will see one. as long as your patient you should get a good mid 300 class bull. Friends dad got one 2 years ago scored 390something.
