Dragon vs RMK 800???

Judging by the mods listed for your other sleds I'd say no, buy the base sled and build it up, the shocks/bars are supposed to be the big add ons of the dragon but the shocks are the first thing alot of guys get rid of.

only if your gonna leave the shocks stock..if your changing shocks I would do the rmk...rmk also should have a 2 ply track vrs the single ply the dragon has(I changed mine so that didnt matter to me either)

Sorry, should of said its for a friend. I know he would just ride it as is...

for the most part either sled is good..I have a 08 dragon..some rip, some need a little tlc to make them rip..and a few are a headache....

Last time I checked, you could buy the standard 800 and install Fox zero pros for less $$. I have what came out of the box as a shift 800 144. I paid $8800.00 for it. I installed Zero pros on the front and pulled the Holz out of the rear of my previous sled. (among several $$ worth of mods) For the price, these shocks are awesome.

Another vote for buying the base (cheaper) model and then adding your shocks of chioce. Not many are happy with the stock shocks on the dragon (or the base for that matter) and basically that is what you are paying for to get the dragon. That and decals:face-icon-small-hap I would buy the base, add shocks and a camo extreme and rock it for about what you would have into a dragon and have a much better sled.

F NO! Dragon is not even worth it at all!!!! Buy base and get real shocks for it! I currently run base model Ryde FX shocks on my dragon cuz the WE's bite hind tit! Buy base, he'll be happy.

You people who believe that the shocks, handlebars and stickers are the only differance have never ridden a standard rmk in pow then jumped off it and got on the dragon it is very different in handleing hands down.Look at the front end (sway bar) the rmk is like the old on like 2006 the dragon is completly different. For those of us that like to ride pow the bars and handling is well worth it.For those who ride trails and jump off into some snow once in a while stick with the standard rmk....................:face-icon-small-coo

Thanks for the replys.... We found a few new in crate 08 155 RMK 800's for $8200. Is this a good price? As you can see in my sig I am not a Poo guy at all so is there any thing that needs attention right off the bat or can he pull the rope and go?
I see Polaris had a recall on topends. What was the problem and was this only on the 2008's?
I see some of you guys are having voltage issues. Does Polaris have a fix?
Anything else we need to know before going to the dealer?
Thanks again for the help and info..

Ummm...... Well, lets see...... I own both an RMK and a dragon....... I would not buy another DRAGON. Not worth the money, get a good deal on an rmk spend $150 on some different bars and risers (I changed bars and risers on my dragon anyway) spend $800 on EXIT shocks take the sway bar off, and have a machine that blows the dragon away in the handling department. OR, spend dragon money and get fancier crap that really isn't all that good anyway and you coulda saved money and got a better sled with an RMK and some really good aftermarket choices. You spend your money however you want, I personally, having owned both and worked in a polaris shop where I got to test ride and seen the problems with all the stuff..... would not buy a dragon, period.

I have a base RMK and have lots of friends that have the dragons. Bottom line is that I go everywhere they do and have had zero issues with my sled in the 3000 miles it has on it. No complaints about the Rydefx shocks either, have proven more reliable than the WE.

Catfreak, read about the problems that people are having with their 800s.
Half the threads in the IQ section are people venting about 800s. Talk your friend into buying an RMK 700 155 and put good shocks on it. That's what I have and I love it. It will run with the m8 all day long, day after day, for years. All I do is pull the cord and haul a$$. Mine has never failed me and that is the norm for the 700. Not so for the 800.

If I was buying a sled right now it would be the 2010 M8 162.

I have found that the dirt bike guys like the Por Taper bars better than us summer sheltered guys. I personally think that they are to low, forcing your wrists to be uncomfortable.Maybe I'm just a pu$$y. I do agree that the new sway bar is better, but its not that $$ good. I would like to ride someones dragon that has a block under the Pro Tapers, but for now I will ride the one I have and be glad it doesn't have Walker Evans

I just came over to polaris form skidoo. not picking sides here, just stating. I have a '10 dragon, and love it. If i could have gotten an 08 for 8200, I'd take it. Is you buddy new to riding? riding for a few years, I can tell a little different from the base and the dragon, however, not as much improvement to make a world of difference. take the 08, he'll love it.

i own a 09 dragon and a just rode a 09 rmk...

Dragon-

Better deep snow performance
easier to side hill
more controllible while climbing
better bars
better controls
warmer bar warmers (IDK WHY????????????)
WAY BETTTTTER seat
The phantom break is more efficient

after 2 rides i blew up the engine

RMK-

Jumps better (proloads easyier, better landing)
Stiffer shocks
good handelbars
no bar pad (aluminum blocks to the chest=broken ribs)
better parking break
better trail performance(not as tippy)
Slick seat....after a day of riding, good luck sitting down on the trail out.

after 3 hours of riding i blew a new belt

Maybe Polaris should =hire me as the OFFICIAL product tester? I have been known to tare up miles of train tracks with a tooth brush and a handful of flaus.

FYI, to anyone out there who may be interested, i have all the parts available to convert your RMK to a dragon...

I have
Walker evans ski shocks
09 dragon front end
09 dragon 155" rear skid
09 dragon hood
