Dragon 800 engine life/needs

Ok so I’m at 4000 miles, SLP Pipe can and intake, 1600 Recall rebuild, 3600 stock pistons and rings (cylinders were in great condition and good clearances on installed parts).

I am thinking I will get through the season with the fresh top end. I am thinking about getting a little more snort for next season, possibly a head and fuel controller, maybe the PMS kit if I get enough miles.

My question is at what point do I need to have the whole thing taken down, and rebuilt? What does it involve? Cost?

It would depend on your condition of your crank as far as cost.

3600 miles on stock pistons? IMO I would think about putting new ones in it, before something happens. That is when it get costly.

I have a shop do all my work, the cost of my rebuild is about 525 bucks topend, and about the same for the bottom end. That includes everything right down to the spark pulgs. But that is on an 860, and not including labor.. and a crank that is with in spec.

Did you mean 1600 on new to end or it was done at 1600? I read it as you had it done at 1600, if I missed it sorry.

Top end was redone at 1600 and 3600. Rode a new stock 2012 assault this weekend and my engine seems snappier but the 2012 definitely felt more torque; but could be the difference in tracks and gearing.

My Dragon is going to the shop for a 2012 suspension and peak track with 7 tooth drivers this week. Also have the clutch rebuilt. Should help.

I really liked the feel of the new Assault, but can tell that the track would trench in the powder. Thinking the plan is keeping this one for the deep powder work and get a new assault next year.

Once you ride with the new peak track post up your thoughts on it!

Did not put fix kit top end in last year as it was at least two weeks out and only one month left in the season... the cylinders and pistons looked good without skirt scrapes or damage, just rings wore out. So I had stock pistons put in with good tolerance measurements.
