picking up a 09 dragon 163, gonna do a silber kit next year, what should i do to it this year, ie pipe, clutching, fuel controlers, what, any help is apprecitated, coming off a tapex, so this will be quit a change.

great choice... HIDs are a must.
Meat Hooker board inserts (if hes still around)
SLP intake kit (air horn and dash vent)
thats all i can think of for now

i just picked up an 09 dragon 163 also...ive looked into an slp pipe and everyone told me to make it really perform you need the PCV...ya pay say 450 for a used pipe and can and then blow another say 375 on the pcv...all for 6 horse....imho it aint worth it for me...i say clutch it gear it, vent it and ride the holy livin piss out of it until you boost it....thats what my plan is....
here be my baby

Put your money into suspension and a track this year, that way you're set up for the turbo next year. Doesn't make much sense to drop a bunch of cash on something you'll just be changing out next season.

exactly what i was thinking. why spend a pile on stuff that will be useless next year

if you plan on boosting, follow Hundo's suggestion.

Unless of course yours has the death bog, you will then need a PC5 in order to make that go away!!!!! So you might want that before the SLP exhuast!

The WE's really don't cut it on that sled. The rear is really bad and bottoms out quickly. You can get a Timbersled rear for very cheap compared to the others. But the biggest mod you can make to that sled is a new Camo Extreme track (especially on a turbo). I've seen a guy with a turbo D8 and the stock 5.1 and it is constantly spinning and not hooking up when he needs it to.

Start getting it ready for boost! D&R is a must on these sleds (the stock set up the track rubs the tunnel roof), stock skid wont hold up to boost, and you can save 17lbs by going to a timber sled mtn tamer, yard the sway bar system off and go to some floats or WE needles.Better Boards and Better bars are an inexpensive way to make it a whole new sled! like said above the pipe/can combo doesnt really do much and its pricey for what it is, and you wont be able to use it when you do turbo. changing out the track makes a big difference to, either a CE or a power claw. all depends on how much you feel like doing now i guess. I have my stocker set up with a super Q can (best weight savings and sound imo) little different clutching, FTX D&R, and powdercoated everything so that if for some weird reason mine ever goes down, i can just swap the turbo and go ride more that day or the next

You're gonna eventually love the ride if you can get over the complete lack of GO in comparison to a decent running turbo apex!

See us in Spokane at the sled show. Better Boards and new stronger and stiffer chromoly running board support Bars make that sled way quicker in handling response. It sounds ridiculous but it is an absolute fact.

Polaris brags that the new PRO is 300% stiffer so it handles better and quicker. Well I rode the demo PRO a lot (and we got one) and it absolutely does. BUT....this sled in the photo is an 09 and it still handles BETTER then the stock demo PRO did! (of course it's got the planet's baddest aftermarket suspension HOLZ ALPHA-X with Fox Evol X shocks and 4000 miles of setup experience dialing it in) Sure.... everyone thinks their's is the ultimate! There are definately many ways to "skin a cat". This sled is available for you to demo if you would like an actual on snow experience to settle it for yourself.

mods

If I were you, change out the front shocks and get a different rear skid, these are 2 mods you will more than likely end up doing. The stock WE's are complete junk, and the rear skid suspension geometry isnt worth a chit. You can see my complete rear skid in the background.

Thanks for all the suggestions, i'll probably do the track and front supension this year, clutching, and what about gearing, just depends on how deep the pockets go i guess.

And larry, i hope i'm not getting the dreaded death bog, hard to tell with no snow.

Might also want to see Rob at the Spokane show for a good set of EGT's. I'm fairly convinced that I could ride about any stock Polaris to melt down by camping in the mid-range lean spot. I am also convinced that I could ride out of a melt down by watching the EGT's and wicking the throttle to keep things cool.

I have 1 08 and 2 09 turbo's and even with fuel mamagement I can see lean issues in the 6800-7200 range going down the trail. For me thats the RPM range I ride while gawking around looking for elk or chutes. It can happen fairly quickly or be avoided real easy by having and watching the gauges. There's never any elk anyway, might as well pamper the sled. EW

I wouldn't waste my time on mods that you can't use with the turbo. I would look at another track for the turbo upgrade. The 5.1 is not a bad track but with a turbo I would get a CE. I would also look at some suspension upgrade, the WE shocks are too soft. I wouldn't do anything with the clutch but upkeep. When you turbo you will need to re-clutch, save your money for next year.

Honestly the first thing I would do is contact F-Bomb and get some of his better boards. Probably the best mod I did to my IQ. Plus you can use them next year on the turbo!

Carbon hood.... side pannels....ARS Arms....Exit shocks all way round...CoBe bumper....:face-icon-small-hap

You know what to do. Talk to Brian..XXX Modrods and get his stuff on there. Then Call Curt up and get his drop n roll and talk to him about some clutching gearing. hes got some really good setups. dont waste time or money with any pipe combo, cant use it with the turbo. Maybe some of the little things like a new throtle block, small stuff that you know you want. Like everyone says.....Track... I can probably get you a can for free for that thing too just to lighten it up a bit for this year.

Did you say free, yes please.

Stock rear springs are junk soft, install heavier ones or the 47* ones and it will ride much better. . .
