Don't Laugh: Closest Riding to San Diego?

Moving to Carlsbad CA and wondering where the closest riding area is. I've still got a place in Colorado so this winter I'll get my fix, just wondering if there is anything worth driving to.

The closest area with groomed trails, off-trail, etc... is the south Sequoia/Sherman area out of Lake Isabella. If you leave early AM with no traffic you're looking at a 5-6 hour trip. You can shave an hour off if you go up the east side into Kennedy Meadows, but snow levels and loading areas can be uncooperative at times.
Add another 1-2 hours for Mammoth/Sonora on the east, or areas out of Fresno on the west. I'm about 2 hours north of you and typically bring a camper and make a weekend out of it, trying to make a day trip just kills you on the way home.

Check out www.sugarloafers.com and click on riding areas. They have some maps to the trailheads, etc....

or our club, address in my signature, to hook up with some of us down here in the south. Someone's always usually riding Sherman or Mammoth.

Mike

Looks like i've got a few hours of driving ahead of me. What about the Southwest corner of Utah?

Speed limit in Cali pulling a trailer is 55MPH. Can get away with 59-62 except in recreation towns.

Nevada can go the same as a car so lots faster.

You must be talking about St George ... never been there

In Nevada the Rubies mountain range is popular

Spent a couple times in the Sierras ... considered pretty nice when there is snow.

What do you ride ... whats is your style?

55mph when towing a trailer? That sucks. Any issue with throwing it in the back of a truck? Is there rules about how much the load can hang out of the truck?

I like riding trees. not much of a hill climber. Currently riding a 2010 M8 153 Sno Pro. Previous sled was a highly modified Turbo Nytro.

southwest utah... research the Cedar City area. couldnt tell ya travel times or distance. info would be a lil' hard to come by as the area isnt neccassarily a sledding mecca, but there IS riding there/people who ride there. You probably wont find any "day ride" kinda areas... you ARE in SOUTHERN CALI!:sun:

18 inches or more from the tail lite needs a flag or lites at nite. Been there paid for that.

I guess Mike went on Sherman with a foot on the trail.
