Dogs and ticks...

Hey fellas, just curious if any of you know of a GOOD option for tick control on dogs. We got the tick collar from Walmart :o and then took our pup into the vet for heartworm ect... and he gave us a different collar (supposedly better than the Walmart cheapo's :rolleyes: ) and our dog is covered in ticks. We are right on the south platte in NE Colorado, so it's kind of a given, but he's sick of them, and my wife is sick of taking them off him. Is there a good **** product out there that will keep ticks from digging in, or at least make them leave as soon and they attach? Any help would be appreciated! Oh, and it would need to be water proof if it's an external thing. Can't keep him out of the water. Thanks! :beer;:beer;:beer;

Edit: Guess 0ral is not a good word around here...

If your dog swims alot, say every day, then there is no product that will be that waterproof. I would suggest Frontline spray. You may need to apply it every week if your dog swims that much. The spray would be preferred to the pour-on Frontline. Frontline is considered waterproof if it is on for 7 days prior to water exposure, then only for about three water episodes in one month. Frontline is good for 1 month on ticks and 3 months on fleas. I hope this is helpful.

Honestly look into Frontline or a new product called Vantrex is the other one I think it is called. Check out 1800petmeds.com you will get the best price there.

My lab loves to run around in the woods with us while camping and out and about and he also swims ALL the time.

You inject it on his neck, back and then rear and it soaks into his skin and he is good for about a month. Problem is you have to keep him out of water 2 days before applying and 2 days after, after that though he is good to go. He may get the tick on him but it will let loose soon after. Also protects against fleas and also mosquitoes.

Check into it, it really does work.

Also it helps to check your dog before he comes in for ticks.

k9 advantix or defend on the back, in two or three spots but again got to keep out of water for couple days gets in the blood or something, kills the ones on your dog everywhere

Thanks guys! Will look into one of the above options. I don't have a clue how we'll keep him out of the water, but we'll figure something out. Thanks again.
