Is that not an awesome video?! I saw it a while ago and thought it was completely insane. I would like to know how fast he is going when he flies less than 10 feet above the ground there. How does he know that he is going to make it and not be splatter on the side of the mountain? Good post!
He can change his fall rate and forward movement by his body position. Arms all the way out, legs straight and toes pointed with his torso cupped to grab the air, he can slow down quite a bit. Or he can bring his arms back and behind him a little and and arch and can really haul ***! A good wing suit pilot (like Jeb is) can fly it with a lot of precision. In that video his forward speed is about 160 to 180 and his fall rate is about 45 to 50mph. He's wearing a BIG wing suit designed for very experienced pilots only and has a lot of control over it.
When guys first started wing suit base jumping, their goal was to get as far away from the cliffs as possible but now they try to fly along side of it (proximity flying) for a dramatic view.
I only have a few jumps with my wing suit but it's the sh!t!!!! I can get almost 2 minutes of flight time outta it from normal jump height (12,500 feet) and cover almost 3 miles, where as a regular skydive is about 55 to 60 seconds straight down!
If any of you want to Skydive come down to Mile High Skydiving in Longmont and do a tandem jump ($230) that's how I got started and now I have 210 jumps!![]()
Thank you for the info! Those numbers are quite amazing. I've been skydiving once and loved it. The wingsuit idea? I'd have to jump a LOT more before I would consider. That is some knarly stuff!
$230 X 210 = $48,300 = 4.2 Pro RMK's. Don't have that kinda money!
