Does cooler length matter that much?

04 rev 800 is the sled and the previous owner stretched it to a 159 but didnt put a tunnel extension on it so it still has the 144 tunnel and cooler. The track is actually longer than the bumper so i have a bungie strap holding the flap up so it doesnt get sucked in. So while riding i have to get off and throw snow on the tunnel to cool it off even when in decent snow(not deep powder tho). Would an extension help throw more snow towards the cooler or do i need a longer cooler as well?

Just put an extension on. The way it is right now there is nothing for the snow to deflect onto the cooler under the tunnel. I have a 144 that I stretched to 159 and left stock cooler. Have not had any heating issues. You can also do a search on dootalk for the thermostat delete and put a temp. gauge in. That way you know what temp you're running. Definitely need the tunnel extension. SLP has that extension for $139.00. Easy to put on.

Do you have a temp. gauge? If so where does it run with the T-stat delete?

Am taking it out this weekend for the first ride since putting the temp gauge in. Will let you know after Saturday.

x2 on the scratchers I have a 151 that been stretched to a 174 and the other weekend I rode a few miles down a ungroomed trail that had a fair amount of loose snow and at the end of that stretch I checked my cooler and it was pretty hot. The next part of the trail was groomed so I kicked down the scratchers and at the end of that stretch of trail my sled was cooler than when i started. I was pretty impressed.

Rode yesterday on hard as rock trail, my slidekicks icescratchers are junk, will be getting wire ones ASAP. Anyway, once the snow softened up a little I was running between 125 and 130. When I put snow on the tunnel temps stayed right around 115 to 125. I'm thinking in good snow conditions the t-stat delete is going to work awesome. Especially when I get good scratchers. Anyone want year old cable scratchers for cheap? Let me know, I will make you a smokin deal.
