Does anyone have their engine out?

I have been fighting an antifreeze leak for a while, and I think I have found where it is coming from. On the back of the block, right below where the plastic hose connections bolt on, there is a small rectangular hole in the casting. Using a mirror and a light, it looks like the antifreeze is leaking out of that hole. Can anyone snap a picture of that area and post it? Also, what would make it leak from that area? I don't want to pull the engine until I am sure I know what needs fixed.
Thanks for the help.
Tim

Sorry to be the one to confirm what you probably know, it needs the mechanical water pump seal replaced. It can be done without removing the engine but is alot easier to do with the engine out.

Snowballs, I've got my engine out and apart right now, but I don't have any pics tonight. I did go out and look at it to find the spot you're describing. Is the small, rectangular hole you're describing in the rear of the case right below the water pump housing ? If so, then unfortunately I would suspect that the mechanical seal for the water pump is failing.

I've got some general pics of that area if they might help...

Thanks for all the quick replies!

94Fordguy, it looks like yours is leaking from the same place as mine. I can see a track running down the block from the window where mine is leaking. It sounds like the water pump seals are the culprit. How hard are they to change? Anyone have any tips or tricks?
Thanks for all the help!

Actually it's my buddies motor. He hasn't had any issues with coolant leaks since he bought the sled brand new. We had the motor out to do a rebuild as he wanted to update to the 32mm crank and we did a top end at the same time. We went for the first ride of this year last on Saturday, no leaks.:D

no you don't have to remove the shaft to replace the seal. but that seal is a bugger to get out sometimes.
