Does anyone have a body lift on their truck?

Im purchasing a 03 DODGE RAM 5.7 Liter HEMI and wanted it to have the off road/ agressive look while still saving money.. I was planning on putting on a 3'' body lift on it. Also i plan on putting bigger tires on it. If you do have a body lift on your trcuk how do you like it? what dont you like about it? pictures?

Thanks,
Tony

are you planning on putting anything heavy in the box? I almost did the same thing, but was advised against it since I have a camper, sled deck, etc. and was told a body lift would not be ideal for what I do with my truck. At the same time, recently I had heard of a front end leveling kit, basically lifting and levelling the front of truck to the back, allowing 35" tires, I think the leveling kit installed was only $300 or so, it was a really reasonable option to fit 35" tires on my truck, but I never pulled the trigger.

No, i most likely will not put anything as heavy as a camper or sled deck in bed of the truck. Yeah i have heard of Leveling kits but havent really taken much time to read about them.. I will look into it.. If I put a leveling kit on with 33" or 35" tires will it make the truck sit higher?

it will slightly because you have bigger tires, but you would not get that extra lift the body lift kit gives you. I dont have the same truck as you either, and don't know too much about them myself, but thought if your looking to go on the cheap its worth looking into.

I had a 3" body lift on my 89 Dodge. When I got into an accident it folded up like cheap lawn furniture. On the newer vehicles yer messin with the cooling system, moving the body but leavin the rad, and fan. If you don't tow with it you probably won't notice, if you do it may overheat easier. I'll never put another body lift in anything I drive.

If you are just trying to clear tires and want the truck to appear bigger you can do it. They are cheap, can be a pain to install and leave a gap between the frame and body of the truck. In some vehicle's they can cause problems with transmissions popping out of gear (manual trans) and steering linkage issues. If you buy a good kit that addresses all of these issues it may be fine. If you are going cheap and buy a body lift, don't go to cheap and buy a bad one. You will also have to relocate the bumpers or you will have a gap between the body and the bumpers equal to the size of the lift. If you have a trailer hitch, it will also be about 3" lower than the bumper after you relocate the bumper. I personally think that a body lift just makes a mess out of a perfectly good truck. I would only use one if say, I need another inch to clear 37's on my Tahoe. Any body lift over about an 1" looks like garbage. It may look nice from across the street but when you get close you will notice all the issues with it. A dodge should clear 35's with the leveling kit(my 08 will) and 33's stock. If you go bigger than 35's you will want to be looking in to regearing the front and rear differentials to avoid transmission damage and horrible lack of power and bad gas mileage. On an IFS truck, a regear will run you close to 2 grand. Even with 35's on the stock 3.96 gears you will notice a power loss and gas mileage loss. I say level it and put 33's or 35's on it and call it good. You you want more lift, do it right, spend the money and do a Rancho 4" suspension lift.

One more note: in talking about the leveling kit I'm assuming you have a 1/2 ton. If not and you have a solid front axle, disregard all talk of leveling kits...but the body lift stuff still apply's.

in my opinion body lifts are UGLY as he** and pointless. like above i dont know if you have a half ton or bigger and i dont know how much difference it really makes but my buddy has an 06 2500 megacab and all he did was leveled it and installed 35''s and its plenty high.

I did a body lift on my 99 ranger and it was OK at best. Wouldn't do it again.

Did a Rancho Quick lift leveling kit on my 05 F-150 and did the matching RS 9000XL shocks on the back and couldn't be happier. Rides like a caddy on the road and if going off road or towing/hauling you can turn them up and compensate. They are also offering a wireless remote to do the adjustments now which is really sweet and it's free with the quick lifts and matching rears (wasn't available yet when I did mine ). Allows for up to 35" tires.

Check it out Rancho

After doing some looking it doesn't look like they've done one for the 03 dodge but I'll leave the info for anyone else that might want to check it out.
