So on our way to Jackson the 99 Dodge with the six speed pops outa sixth gear, it shifts into and outta but NO SIXTH GEAR. Can I remove the back half of the trany and repair this like the 5 speed trans. ?? By the way its a long freaking drive from Jackson to Trout Creek MT at 60 MPH :( Dino

gonna have to pull the whole tranny. 5 speeds have a overdrive box. does it feel like it going into gear?or feels like it in neutral?
It feels as if its going into gear, I just dont feel the gear and still let the clutch out...only shifted into sixth gear about 20 times on the way home :face-icon-small-con Dino

Probably took the teeth off 6th. I do not know but have been told not to pull in 6th as that gear is not very wide.

Had a 04 with a six speed, towed everything under the sun with that truck...wonder if it had the same trans. Dino

Well after calling a few trans shops I took it to one in Missoula. He told me that the six speed can have the nut come lose and render 6th useless, he also said that when this happens it can strip the teeth off:( We will know tomorrow, I just haven't heard of any grief with the 6 speed  only 133 K on the truck. Dino

that would be kinda doubtful. 6th is on the front of the mainshaft while reverse is on the end of the shaft.this is still very uncommon. I would consider bearings, synchros if needed while its apart.

I lost my tranny once, I went in reverse for like 35 miles to get back home :D

had a massive kink in my neck for a day or so ahah, damm thing will do like 45mph in reverse!!

auto though

Your not the first to tell me this :light: should be quite the learning experience. Darn thing shifts smooth other than 6th. Time will tell. Thanks for the help, Dino

5th gear nut is common to falling off on the 5 speeds... never heard of the 6th gear nut falling off on 6 speeds...
