Do you hunt from sleds?

I am thinking about hunting from my M8

was out yesterday busting trail all day and looking at all the critter tracks, got me to thinking I want to hunt Cougar using my M8 as a platform. Tracked ATV would be very slow in this deep of snow, shallower snow I'd use my 660 grizz ATV.

anyone got hunting pics using sleds? There is a few guys around here that have utility type sleds with hound dog boxes on the back of the tunnel but I won't be using dogs, next time I see these guys I'll stop and chat ahwile..I don't know them though just seen em driving by.

would like to see how folks attach chain saws, axes...all the 'stuff' used for hunting including snow shoes etc. but I want all the gear easily removed for when I ride not hunting and not weight down the sled or junk it up

also, on that note what should I use to shoot the cat?
I was thinking TC pistol with a bandolir holster but it's only single shot and I don't want to blow a big azz hole in the hide. The TC I have access too has a 730? waters barrel and maybe a 30-30 barrell but that is too big I'm thinking. Something like a 223?

centerfire 22 cal or larger is lawful in WA for cougar......

also, how much is a full mount run these days? I want to mount it above my entry door in the forier laying on a log looking down at the guests as they enter with the tail dangling down in a slight curl

If you hunt big game from a sled in this part of the country you will get shot, after big game season not a problem..

If you pull a spike and a cow at the same time, you might be a BIG redneck. LOL

Chris I know the sled your talking about. He is running live traps this time of year. I'll pm you his info. Good guy to talk to and has a ton of experience with packing gear and hunting/trapping goods. Have a good one. EW

Shoot yotes and cats all the time from sleds. Running them down ruins pelts

Eric nice pics, I drive over boulder damm near every day and used to see him parked there quite often last year. Didn't realize anyone trapped around here anymore, used too as a kid and want to get back into it, speaking of kids......
my bro put a Bobcat under the x-mas tree one year in a portable dog kennel (it was gift wrapped), was a hoot when momma opened the box to take a look at her 'puppy' HAHA

I'll hafta find those pics

Late season hunt units when the snow comes early sleds are the only way to go. There's always all kinds of ATV's stuck at the snowline when the snow gets to deep. It's perfectly legal as long as you stay on exisiting trails. I use sleds to get to the top of the mountain or near a particular basin, then hunt on foot. The quads are a little hard to get away from prior to having any snow, I figure it's time to get even when the snow fly's.

Just remember one thing. In Washington State it is unlawful to carry a loaded firearm in or on a motor vehicle. That includes cars, trucks, motorcycles, atv's, snowmobiles, etc. In other words, use the sled for transportation, not a shooting platform and you'll be OK.

Let me know how it works out for you. I am an Instructor for the Wa Dept of Fish & Wildlife. Might make a good story for class:)

have used my sleds for hunting and trapping for years, we do a trap line all winter as well as a spring grizzly bear hunt, I have four wolves, 2 wolverines and several grizzlys, all harvested from a sled, of course the machine must be stopped and off here in alaska when you shoot.I shoot a remington 300 ultra mag using hand loads of barnes solids..work good on all these animals except the bears..those get barnes X bullets, with hot loads...for fox and such I have light loads with same solids..work great..on the edge chassis we used to cut thru the console and cut up a plastic gun boot to slide in right over the clutch cover..worked great..the new sled (08 800 dragon) is gonna be tougher but will work out a mount soon...

I remember I posted last year that I used my sled to ran down coyotes and everybody jumped all over me about the tree huggers are going to get you for that and don't post that kind of thing on here, they are on here looking for us too!!!!

I am hunter, not a tree hugger nor a member of PETA. I have never understood the appeal of running an animal down with a snowmobile or pickup.

As cubby points out, tree huggers and PETA members would love to capture some of this on tape to further their cause...so stop doing it and certainly don't post any of your past exploits on youtube or you will likely be the next Mike Vick.

I walk or ride a mt. bike to my hunting areas so no help wrt sled set-up.

That's what I do too. Up in the Bighorns they always seem to get a good snow about the middle of October that keeps the road hunters out, so I break out the sleds and head on in. Park the sleds, walk on in, shoot an elk, and then tow the elk out. Perfect.:)

we had a LEH for a bull moose in b.c., there was lots of snow so we looked in the regs and it says were now aloud to hunt using snowmobile. so we loaded up the sled and away we went.. we happend to come across a nice 8/8 bull moose first thing in the morning, we bent the bumper to **** trying to get it onto the trail ising a long cable and snatchblock, things worked out perfect for us that day anyways ill post pics when i get back to my house cuz i dont have any on the computer im using right now.
