Do you have a fire extinguisher in your trailer?

I am thinking about installing a fire extinguisher, and a first aid kit in my enclosed trailer. Being that -20 is not unheard of, what kind on fire extinguisher is recommended? :light:

I keep a 5 pound Dry Chemical ABC extinguisher mounted by man door and one by the rear trailer door. I have not ever had to use them but like the idea of having them in case the need would arise.

Yes only one 5lb extinguisher. My friends sled burnt down in a trailer, so $50 is cheap insurance.

If you can afford, think about getting a 5# ABC ($30-50) and a 5# CO2 ($200 approx for 5# CO2).

I'd prefer to use the CO2 if the fire was in the engine area or if there are sleds the trailer and a fire in the trailer.

Once you use an ABC, even slightly, the pressure will leak out (probably within the next month) and you will need to get it recharged. If you use the ABC in the engine area, it will make a huge mess and I heard the chemical is corrosive. I'd be concerned about the clutches, intake, carbs, etc, being coated in the chemical.

If a quick shot of CO2 puts it out, and you still have the 5# abc as backup, I wouldn't worry about recharging the CO2 because they generally don't leak after use because there is no dry chemical to get in the valve mechanism.

I have one mounted on the wall in my trailer and I keep one in my truck box also... The best thing I hope I will never use!

I always keep one in the tool box of the truck. Comes in handy more than just for sledding. You never know and its always good to be prepared!

I have a big ole CO2 in my trailer.... I got the thing for free and free is a good thing sometimes LOL

5# is too small get at least a 10# ABC I bought one last night at Lowes for $50

If you want to mount one and more or less forget about it, get a CO2. No major voltage in a trailer to worry about energized fires...
ABC extinguishers work better in my opinion, but require more attention. Extinguishing agent can get compacted in the bottle, not allowing it to exit under pressure. The extinguisher itself is more prone to problems especially extreme temperature swings (bottle pressure, expanding contracting seals) which may cause it to leak down on you.

Also, the agent in them tends to be caustic once wet (cleaning up after use), as well as it's extremely abrasive (won't want it near any engine intake).

Smaller extinguishers would be ok, if a small one won't snuff your fire quickly, it's dumb to keep tryin, especially in an enclosed trailer.... You'll get overcome in a small trailer before you know what hit ya!

Also, stay away from any "General" branded extinguishers. Lost their UL listing and you won't be able to find anyone to re-fill/service them.

For any Extinguisher, make sure all bottle parts are good metal, no plastic necks etc... Or they'll just break or leak down.
