Do you counter steer 'cause you need to, or just to put the high side bar handy?

You know what I mean. I think sometimes it's just to make the the high side grip in a good position. Does a virtical column work better than one that would go in front of the motor? As the steering turns the bars would stay flatter instead of dropping the high side grip toward the seat.
Any thoughts?

I can't remember a time that I counter steered when it wasn't needed unless I was just goffing around and experimenting. I changed my handle bars plus put a riser on. If I remember right when I turn they don't drop more than I'd guess an inch or two. I think a vertical column would be better...why would you want one in front of the motor??? You'd be leaning over the front of the sled and end up with a big a$$ kink in your neck :)

I also countersteer because I think I look cool doing it! I do look cool, don't I?
And how can you get a a$$ kink in your neck?

I counter steer since it is easier to pull the sled into the hill with the added benefit of the hillside ski not getting accidentally hooked into or kicked off of a rut or something. You are not trying to lean across the sled and I find it easier to lean back and throw your weight towards the hill.:D

I saw most of the riders countersteering on the new Slednecks 10 at one time or another...I think Teton needs to give them a clinic!

counter steer

I counter steer cuz if i didn't and my ski caught a rut, tree, rock or anything else i would be bucked and there goes another yard sale.

I only countersteer when I need to impress some hot babe in the parking lot. There's nothing worse than trying to pull your sled up on it's side while it's sitting on the trailer and then having it fall over on you because you forgot to countersteer!

Counter Steering is a Skill, Lots of people can't grab the concept, what is happening is you are using the back edge of the ski touching the snow keep your sled in the semi upright position, otherwise you would tend to always pull it over on its side.

I countersteer if my last psychic reading said it's favorable to do so, and then only if Mars is in the house of Scorpio. :moon::face-icon-small-con

Wife thought she was too light (100lbs), and sled too heavy (MM700). Taught her to countersteer and now she climbs and sidehills with the best of them.
