do i need heat tape or something on the side panels if i have vents in them?

i put 2 cool vents in my side panels tonight and i put heat tape on the inside after i drilled the holes. but should i have put the heat tape on or should i have drilled holes on the stock stuff that comes on the inside of the panel ( not sure what its called). this seems like a stupid question but i dotn want to get out on the trail and have something melt down. any help would be great.
Thanks

I haven't done the side panel vents on my M yet, but I never melted anything on my 900 RMK after putting them on ....

And we all know how prone to overheating and melting stuff 900 RMK's are ...

But, it never hurts to put heat tape on something you think might need a little bit of insulation ...... cheap insurance i guess :)

No heat tape on mine. Not sure what sled you're on, but use your discretion as to how close the can is to your side panel. Where it gets close, tape it.
