Do i need a skid plate for a 08 154"?

I just bought a leftover 154" and heard a theory that you need a skid plate for them becuase the front heat exchanger is vulnerable to rocks, stumps, and arctic cats. If this is true do what one do you guys recommend? thanks in advance.

A skid plate is cheap insurance in my opinion, you never know what you might find thats hidden. You can look at Ski Doo's skid plate, or Holeshots,
or Skinz, I believe they are all good, just personal preference. I have the
Ski Doo one since it was all that was available last year.

Yes you will need a skid plate on any REV/XP........but first

you will need skid plates for that back of your helmet and powder puff backback........cuz im using you and your lady friend josh as traction:beer;

I gotta go post some scooter love in the utah forum

A skidplate is the first thing to go on every sled I own. Rocks and stumps have no mercy. Floatation is better and you don't carry as much packed in snow weight in the front end.

the skid plate is useless for protection and also more snow and ice pack in with it. flotaion is no better with a plate either. save your money for fuel.

OK, come look at the tear in the bottom of mine that was caused by some idiot that put a cinder block out on the golf course we were busting drifts on last year.......

without the plate, I would have had major damage to bulkhead and steering..... as it turned out, it threw me into the air and over the bars, and the sled rolled upside down....

I have never had any substantial snow and ice buildup either... some, but nothing to worry about.

skins

i just received my custom skins FLOAT PLATE. this thing is huge. the box it came in said 13 lbs. i could probably just ride without front skis and suspension its so big probably wear slower than hyfax. im going to have to trim this thing down seriously in overall size. i dont think one would need snow on a rocky mountain range, this will protect you from any kind of ballistics. but they were kind enough to make the color i wanted custom so they are great. go buy one

That's why I just can't bring myself to buy one. I didn't buy an XP to add weight to it. 13 lbs-the box was 2 lbs?- is crazy! I'll take my chances! That being said, if I smack a rock this year, I don't want any of you coming on here and saying "I told you so":)

I bought one from BRP for mine. It has several gouges in it that could have been worse if it was damage to the nun or bulkhead. Also a few guys were complaining last season that without the plate, snow and ice would restrict the steering. I never noticed snow or ice building on top the skidplate but found the rivits did come loose until I removed the exhaust and was able to put washers on the inside to stop them ripping through. Take a look under the front of your sled and contemplate what would happen if you bounced that nun off a bolder. Avoid getting a plate too big that would hold alot of snow on top.

I went with Ski-doo Skid Plate on mine because HoleShot does not offer one in white. It only weighs a couple of pounds. I have my sled at 515lbs ready to ride.

Snowcatter thanks for the pic, I was not sure if I wanted a plate, or not, and then what color to get? but yours looks real, real nice, you made up my mind, white it is!
