Do 7' wide trailers sway more than 8.5 wide?

Hello woundering if 7' wide trailers sway more on trips out west with the winds vs 8.5' wide ones. Always used 8.5' square nose trailer and now just purchased a 7'x27' legend trailer and want to be prepared. Pull truck is a 2006 f250 crew short box diesel with 4wd

I have pulled a 30 foot plus 5 foot v car hauler and needed sway bars pulling with a one ton vehicle. I now pull a 30 foot plus 5 foot v inline and have no sway with same tow vehicle. The inline is all aluminum which makes it a lot lighter.

The only other trailer that I ever pulled that wanted to sway was an 8.5 wide deck over. Unless you go real long (30 feet plus) I think an inline with the wide axles, or the 8.5 wide with wide axles and wheel wells will generally not sway.

Did you or do u have air bags for the 8.5 car hauler. Was planning on getting them For work trailers and didn't like the sag from last deckover trailer tongue weight. Even though this new one is all aluminum I think might help too

Did not use air bags. Tow vehicle is a heavy duty one ton and had less than two inches of spring drop when hooking up fully loaded trailer. Both trailers have triple axles and I believe with the extra weight the car hauler tried to drive the tow vehicle. Both trailers have torsion axles and I made sure to keep the trailers level to slightly tongue high when fully loaded to help prevent sway. Even with the aluminum inline sway will happen if the tongue is too low.

Yeah I'm just used to spring axle pj power tilt deckover at empty wieght of 4700 lbs plus then a track loader on it so rear of truck drops about 2-3" fully loaded and don't like the feeling how the front is but I do have a leveling kit on truck so maybe Its just in my head lol and I have overloads and add a leaf. Just worried about having to crawl first trip west with new trailer of not prepared next year lol but I'm thinking will be fine

New trailer sled trailer is tandem and spring axles rides great unloaded but does have tongue wieght and will only get more with sleds on how the axles are set

Spring axles divide the load between the axles via the common pivot mount between them making tongue height less of an issue.

the trailer in my avatar is a 7x31 all aluminum 2400 lbs and ive pulled it with anything from a dodge Dakota to a tonner dually chevy. the lighter the tow vehicle in my case the more sway, behind my dads 3/4 chevy 6.0, you wouldn't know its back there. I used to have a 24+5 8.5 wide and you knew it was back there. it swayed a lil no matter what. don't know if it was trailer design or just the extra weight but.... one thing I noticed to was the taller like a deck over the more sway there was my 0.2$

No sway at all with my 8'6" X 20' Mirage enclosed behind my 2013 Silverado 2500 HD Crew Cab. Standard receiver hitch.

Just got a 7x20 look with 5 ft vnose steel trailer. Pulling it with a 14 1/2 chev with a 6.2. Pulled it about 1000 miles so far. Pulls easier and better than the 8x10 5 foot vnose over the axle it replaced.

trailer sway

If want a trailer that pulls nice n very little sway buy a fith wheel pin hook up trailer.

We have the same trailer. I pulled out west twice last season. It pulled great loaded with 4 sleds and gear. The only thing I noticed was the "push" you get when you pass a semi.

My tow rig then was a 2011 Silverado 2500 Crew with Duramax and air bags.

I run the bags for my work trailer which is a steel tilt deck. 16 ' tilt with 4 ' stationary platform. I haul two 5000 pound scissor lifts and a 1500 lb gang box on the front of the trailer.
