DMAX, Help, know little about them

So my 07 Cummins is gone, and I'm looking for a truck that I can pay cash for and not have a payment.

I found a 2002 Dmax 2500 crew 4x4 with leather. It has 80k miles and is in the $15k range.

I know enough to ask if the injectors were upgraded. Anything else that needs special attention.

Any dmax quirks that a laymen wouldn't know about??

How is the fuel mileage on these trucks?

I was going to go with a Ford 7.3, how are these dmax motors?

Sounds like a good deal to me.

If the injectors have been done or there is no blue or white smoke at startup I would say it is good to go.

I would say the D-Max or 7.3 Fords are equally reliable. I've known people that have had good luck with both.

Only thing I will say is the Chevy will ride better but at the expense of lower ride height and crappy IFS.

Ford has tougher solid front end but crappy turning and turning radius (4 turns lock to lock).

I also far prefer the Chevy interior.

Just my 2 cents.

If you get another Cummins, get an 03 or newer or 98 12 valve. If you get a pre Superduty Powerstroke get the F350 to get the solid front end.

I'm not sure about the new ones, but the F250 of that era has a solid front end, fwiw.

Pre superduty means 94.5-97 7.3 powerstroke. f250 = TTB, only f350 had a solid axle. All superdutys have a solid axle 99-current

The dmax was sold. I found a 2001 f250 leather 4x4 with 77k miles for $16k and a 2000 F350 xcab leather with level kit, chrome tires, leer shell, 2 tone paint and 90k miles for $14.5.
I'll know more tomorrow.

I've had a hard time deciding between the 03 f350 6.0 with 6 speed manual, no leather not as much as a scratch or door ding, and higher (over 100k) miles but $3k cheaper than an 01 f250 7.3 auto lariat with 72k miles with a small paint gouge at the wheel wheel. Both are crew cab long bed 4x4. 01 is original owner with all service records, 03 is 2 owner and says never had a problem.
Back and forth all day.

Anyone care to guess what I'm picking up tomorrow????????

Stay away from the 6.0. I ran one has a farm truck for a while and it was a piece. The 7.3 is a good motor and Ford makes a good truck. I drive an 02 duramax with 206,000 miles and have every intention of taking this one to 300 plus. Its had a chip one it since 10,000 miles and runs like a champ.

Good luck with your purchase. I wouldn't be the list bit scared of the 7.3.

I bought the 7.3. Drove it home from Portland and hand calced 17.5 mpg at 75 mph. My insurance dropped $730 a year full coverage, and my registration went from $475 with the dodge to $78.
Going to pick up new wheels/tires today.
