Well in my constant hunt for new hobbies and ones the wife may like to join me in, I've decided I want to look into diving. Ideally I would liek to scuba, but the wife isn't sure yet. Nor does having 2 small kids help with time.

So I figure I'll start with snorkeling and kinda free diving.

I know some of you guys do this stuff so let fly with some help if ya got any.

Get her out for a scuba experience that should make up her mind. they will walk you threw it and then if its for you start your open water classes :beer;. Its nice if you own your own equipment then diving can be a spur of the moment thing when time allows. :beer; I have had good luck with this mail order place but make sure someone in your area is here for warranty work as well as up keep on annuals http://www.leisurepro.com/

I started diving almost 20 years ago. When I was living in Alaska I dove about 5 or 6 times a month at least, year round. Winter diving was the best. I haven't been able to go much since I left Alaska. I just don't have as much time and not having a boat doesn't help either. If you decide to dive on a regular basis, make sure you buy good equipment and have it maintained. I wouldn't hesitate to buy used equipment but make sure you have a dive shop check it out before you use it.

And do you plan on doing this in the murky waters of Minnewawa or Big Sandy? :)

I do a lot of snorkel, always wanted to get into diving but the kiddies are young and such

took my wife snorkling in Kuai, she was a bit overwhelmed by it. But then we went on a zodiak tour and she loved the snorkel portion of that (they feed fish in a certian spot) ...lots of people made her feel comfortable. When its just me she freaked out. Shes like....

OMG SHARKS!!!

Snorkeling

I used have a real problem with the face down in the ocean thing. It made me feel claustrophobic. But, the location and the safety made it all better. First, my hubby stays pretty close to me (safety). Second, someplace nice and clear with access to lounge in the sun if need be (location). Hawaii has nice places and I understand Mexico does too. We have snorkeled on Oahu, Maui, & the Big Island. This year we are trying Kauai and I have heard rave reviews. If you are a Costco member, check out their website. Trips to Hawaii right now are pretty cheap. I saw prices around $2,500 for 7 nights. The price tag included air, room, & rental car.

If you are planning this adventure in Minnesnowta take plenty of liquid courage :beer; some Leinies should do.

Also, check your local pools and see what they have for diving classes. I know my boss did this, but the claustrophobic thing got her too. She likes snorkeling better than diving.

the benefit of year round access to Minnie equals clear water in spring and fall when all you city fawks ain't stirring it up. The dam isn't bad either if you can get back to it....really clear and some BIG fish. Plus the pit lakes in Crosby aren't bad I hear.
