OK... I've been pondering this for a while now...

Seat height...

It seems that everybody likes a tall seat...Wondering why?

I've had Boss High rise seats on past sleds... both the 1.5" + and the 3" + heights..

If you are a tall rider.. I can imagine that the height would be good...

If not, well why would you want it?

I spend Very little time in the saddle and most of the time standing...

The Highrises make it more difficult and more tiring, for ME, to jump from side to side on the running boards when boondocking.

What are your thoughts on this?

Since Im worn out and am doing some post whoring right now Ill give my 2 cents. Was jumping back between my 02 and my Dragon today and I Couldnt believe how low the seat was on the 02 edge. Felt like my knees where in my chest and I am about average size ( 6ft 220) The taller seat on my Dragon was much easier to go from standing to sitting And its low narrow profile was much easier to move around. But On the trail the 02 rails threw the corners better. But felt like I was riding with my butt on the ground after riding my dragon for a season.

But what about mobility between sides... Hopping from one running board to the other??

How much sitting vs standing???

I agree. My nytro seat seems perfect for me, and I would think any higher and it would impede the ability to go from one side to another. I stand as much as possible, unless I am tired or lazy... or if the terrain is smooth enough were it is comfortable.

I'm 6' 2" and I don't even notice my Boss Highrise is there when I jump from side to side, no difference between it and stock........and I do jump from side to side alot being a measly 165 pounds. As far as I'm concerned it could be an inch higher and I would be even happier.

I like the higher ones. Knees aren't at my ears and when I go form standing to sitting it's not like to squats. I stand up most the day and don't noticewhen going form sid to side. I think the IQ and nytro are about the perfect height for me

Like Bubba700 said, I hate the feeling like my knees are higher than my chest.
It's like sitting on a toilet wrestling a growler all day.
I have a seriously damaged back so I need all the aid I can get in going from sitting to standing easily.
It's a much more comfortable seat than stock (Boss Hi Rise) as I am forced to sit on the seat on the groomed trails as much as I can so I can save all the stand-up riding for the fun areas.

I've had the Hi-Rise on two sleds now and It really feels strange to ride a sled without one.

Downside is obvious though...
It's harder to hug the rails on the fast trails and your center of gravity is higher on a sitdown sidehill.

I'm 6'4" and the boss highrise is non too tall for me. I would like it a little taller and a little shorter. I don't usually step directly over the seat, but I swing my leg towards the rear to step over, sometimes I hit my gas can with my foot.

I actually have a harder time going rail to rail on the edge cause a couple of reasons, first the hump on the back seems to like to catch my boot, and then the seat is so wide that it makes me sorta stand bowlegged and my feet slip off more. At the end of the day riding the edge with the fat seat my knees would actually hurt. Tall slim seat on the IQ is the ticket IMO

Adrenaline, growler? LMAO got a good laugh this am.

When in doubt you should always ask a hippie. And the hippie says, "high is the way to go".:)

Glad I could cheer ya up!

I forgot about the part about catching your boot on the hump at the back of the stock seat.
The REV seat was the same way. I would always have black scuff marks at the end of a ride from jumping back and forth and my boot catching on the seat accross the yellow trunk area.

With the Boss Hi Rise that problem disappeared.
It's shorter in length there and the boot crosses over, past the end of the seat and now just skims accross the spare tank of gas.
It's actually less effort to cross over than with the stock seat.

Just put a Boss on my 900 and I'm 6'2" so the extra height is good for me. Also have my bars at 8" over stock so even on the higher seat, it looks funny when I'm sitting down. The thing is way more comfortable too so in the rare instance that I use the seat for it's intended purpose, I do appreciate it. No negatives yet:beer;

love my boss highrise shorty..i find the height perfect standing..im 5 10..to be able to pinch the seat perfect with my knees when im rolling the machine on edge in the powder..

Sounds like the guys over 6" like them higher....

This 5'10" chick likes the taller seat.

LOVED my old Boss High Rise. Would like the stock Dragon seat a bit higher for the ride home. But that's about it, when I'm off trail I'm off my seat. I have been known to lose a seat and not even knot it was gone for periods at a time...... lol

I'm 6'4" and I hate the low seat of my king cat. Did a bit of trail riding on my buddies rev and the stock seat was so much nicer. It's just bad for me because my bars are so high for sitting. Don't switch sides a ton because i'm 290 and well, I don't need to :D Don't sit a lot, but it is nice to be comfortable on the trail, and it's only getting worse because my bars are still to low for standing. Seem to have a lot more control on the corners with the higher seat to.

Definitely nicer to have the higher seat. One thing I find I like that hasn't been mentioned above is the advantage when carving. I do jump from side to side a lot, without any problem, but sometimes when not standing on one side I find being able to apply pressure to the high side of the seat with the inside of me leg helps me get the sled over easier and then helps my balance while in the carve. (I hope that makes sense) I just started riding with the higher, rider forward seating this past season and found it so much nicer and less tiring.

I am 5'1" and find that a taller seat is not for me. If my boot can miss the back end of the seat then I am alright, but if it catches, then talk about wore out at the end of the day. As I prefer to stand 95% of the time as we are usually off trail.

I don't use a high rise either........

I'm old and I don't sit down except for lunch break. Well maybe sometimes on a long smooth trail, then the stock seat works fine. Yes, a high seat can get hooked on a boot when jumping back and forth. With the five hundred bucks , I can drink more.

I've got an 03 Escape(seat made by Boss) and an 02 RMK w/stock seat. Sitting down riding is a little awkward on both because of risers. Standing and switching sides I prefer the Escape seat. Seem to hang a heel on the RMK seat too much.
