Digital wrench not communicating with my 900

Hey whats up guys, I'm back!
It's been an excellent summer of dirt biking, many stories to tell, pics and vids to share. But... it's that time again, get the sled ready for the upcoming season.

Just got back from polaris on a parts run, and to get my slp reflash for my new pipe set. No luck, their computer would not communicate with my ecu. Just to be sure it wasn't their equipment, they hooked it up to several other sleds, including another 900. The problem seems to lie within my sled.

So I'll have to pull my tank and start chasing wiring I guess. I will check for continuity from the digital wrench plug to wherever it disapears into the main harness to start. I figured I should check to see if anyone else has had this issue, and what the problem turned out to be. Or maybe someone has intimate knowledge on how the digital wrench wiring ties into the ecu.

Thanks in advance for any help! I sure would like to get this nailed down asap.

No hits? damn

Well I have my fuel tank off now so when I get a bit of time this weekend I'll start digging. Looks like the DW harness joins right into ECU plug#2

#1- thank you sir

#2- thanks for nuthin

#3- I think I may need it, cheers!

I sat and waited for mine to be reflashed for almost 2 hours. They had to call SLP since Digital Wrench wouldn't let it down load the code for the reflash.

Sorry Dan, I'm no help either...

I think I have eliminated wiring as the problem. I have good contact between the DW plug and the ECU plug, as well as from the ECU powerup plug to the ECU plug. All pins are clean and not broken, everything checks out right up to the ECU pins.

I just got off the phone with Jim from SLP and he said that they cannot do the flash for me, only Polaris can. He also told me that it is unlikely that I have an ECU problem since the sled runs. (I had brief hopes of mailing SLP my ECU for the flash)

Maybe its possible that I had a poor connection at the ECU plug involved for whatever reason. I just made an appointment to bring my sled back to Polaris next days off and see if anything has changed since I cleaned and re-installed the connector plugs.

Does anyone see anything I have missed?

Not that it matters much, because I tested everything... but can anyone confirm for me in this pic? from left to right I am looking at:
Left connector- ECU powerup (3 wires)
Center connector- Digital Wrench (4 wires)
Right connector- Fuel pump prime (2 wires)

Well, Thursday my 900 goes to Polaris to try the flash again. I didn't find any problems... DW wiring is all good, I did clean all the ECU connector pins in hopes that it was only a "less than perfect" connection at the ECU plug.
I think I am going to leave the gas tank un-bolted for access if they still can't connect. It sure would suck if I can't flash for this pipe.:face-icon-small-fro

I would try to verify there is no compromise for power and ground at the connector for the D.W. check for continuity between connector ground and chassis ground, etc. Running an extra ground wire from chassis ground to the motor would also be a very good idea just for the extra protection.

I have a huge cable from chassis to engine, but your right... I only checked continuity from DW to ECU. I'll have time tomorrow night to check for ground on the DW plugs. Big thanks for pointing that out Dave!

Well I cancelled my appointment at Polaris until I can find, and solve the problem. Looks like some foul weather coming in for this weekend, so I should be able to spend some time on this. Update to follow

In your picture, the last set of wires, to the right.. is not correctly identified. Pump prime (2 wire brown & red) is next to the Lights diagnostic plug. What is in your picture is the 2 wire jump (red/blue tracer & grey) correct? That could be an issue, another could be that for whatever reason, digital wrench isn't recognizing ECU to VIN match? In any case, the Polaris tech should have evaluated the problem... the first go around! Good luck!

The service manager at Polaris told me that his laptop was not even recognizing that it was plugged into a sled at all. They did not charge me because they hadn't accomplished anything.
He said his shops next step would be to pull the fuel tank and check wiring, which is where I took over.
I have been taking every chance to go dirt biking while I still can, but otherwise I'm going to get back into this soon.

I went through my sleds wiring several times through the season so far, and had my sled at a Polaris shop 3 times since attempting to get the slp flash installed.... with no luck. It appears that there is a problem with my ecu, it wont communicate with DW.

Has anyone ever run a 900 with the slp pipe without a reflash? I suppose if I want to run it, I will have to buy an ecu. Not likely to happen since I have started saving for a 2013 sled
