Just curious to see if anyone knows if this is an acceptable pattern.

Let me know.

looks pretty good, back lash is too loose though...looks like a 8.5 diff..back lash should be down around .004-.006..that should help the pattern as well....

X3 Pattern good, backlash bad. The diffs that I've set up, I try to keep the backlash to the tighter side of the tolerance to allow for wear over the years.

I don't know how much this affects your readings but I'd try to measure more vertical, yours is almost at a 45 deg.

Here's what i got now, 0.007 backlash.

And the pattern seems more rounded and centered. I can say I'm happy with this pattern. Does seem like the pinions too far out on the drive side though.... Coast side is perfect.

Could i tighten up the backlash a couple thoustandths to around 5 and help the drive pattern?

I would leave it right there, you tighten it up any more and the patterns gonna go pinion deep..that is a good pattern, well centered and will last and run quiet...if you tighten it up any more you are gonna end up reshimming the pinion as well I bet....

Thanks, i will get a new bearing tomorrow and leave it right like that. When i put the new bearing on the pinion, will it change the pinion depth or the backlash with the new bearing?

Thanks again for all your help.

Edit:

I got ambitious and changed the pinion depth...
