Different year TS kits

Are there major performance differences from 2014 kits until now. I have the chance to buy a bike with a 2014 kit but wondering what the problems were.

I have a '14, I have to poach tracks to keep with the '16 kits when its deep. I don't think the suspension is much better on the newer kits (except the '17 LE). You'll want the 2015 bearing update on that 2014.

Yes there is a pretty substantial benefit to 2016 over 2014. While the rumors are true that the 2016 front shock on the skid is softer than it should be, the suspension gets up on the snow a lot better. Add in the Convex track and you can really appreciate the combo.

There are obviously some other updates done between those years, but I feel like those are the most significant for performance. Lots of other good stuff to also look at.

I prefer the 14,it has the bigger drivers and still has the slide rear suspention. I sold my 16 to go back to a 14 but that's just me. The only thing better is they finally got rid of the keyed drive and went to spine in 16 but the keyed drive works, just keep a eye on your bolts for loosening. The new track trenches for me in light powder, but for a upgrade it works good in the spring, so to answer you, just make sure it has the upgrade bearings.

If your just trying to get into the sport I would just find a good deal on one regardless of year, they all work amazingly well and are an absolute blast. If you do get an older one then I would recommend buying timbersleds double bearing upgrade as it makes the panels more rigid and it does give you the piece of mind of starting with all new bearings.

I wouldn't pay attention to all the posts and comments about how the old kits suck and are light years behind the new xxxxx kit. They are only a couple years old and are the same kits that elevated this sport to what it is today. You dont need a 2017 kit and 2017 bike withe a turbo and 5k in bs accesories. Just find a kit and some buddies and go ride!

Thanks for all the feed back. It's a KTM 505. If I was going from scratch I would probably get a 300 2 smoke.
