Diesel Fuel cold weather additives

I use Amsoil cold flow improver, but I seen on a thread some kind of an additive for fuel that has already crystalized. I have seen temperatures reach -35 f, over night and into the morning at one of our favorite places ti ride and I wanted to pick some up to have, just in case.

It's Power Service in the red bottle. I think it's called 911. I keep one in my toolbox.....never needed it yet so I can't say if it works or not. I use the regular Power Service all the time and it's suppose to prevent gelling.

I put stanadyne performance formula in my pickup during the winter. Normally, I use straight #2 diesel because its cheaper and I trust the stanadyne. So far I havn't gelled, even in 20 below weather. I like using an additive that is made specifically for pickup engines instead of one that is made for tractor/semi engines. The only downside is that it freezes when not mixed with diesel (gotta keep it inside).

To the guys that are not using No. 1 Diesel, just using anti-gel products mixed with No. 2 diesel, do you have any problems with gelling if you let your pickup sit for 2 days without being started in 0 or below 0 weather?

Last week when we had temps below zero for 2-3 days, my 6.0l sat with 1/2 tank fuel and I thought it was plugged in but the other end of the plug was not put into the wall. Growled a little bit but fired right off, that was just more of a confidence builder for the product. I've used Howes for years and this year switched to the new Amsoil cold flow improver, haven't pumped a drop of #1 since owning a diesel and have never been stuck stranded or unable to start.

Bang on... Barnes is 100% right Stanadyne is the best diesel additive line available anywhere. It is made by the pump manufacturers.. Central Diesel in Red Deer got me on it when my injectors were sticking. Hands down the best stuff ever.. Fixed her right up..

So with the Statadyne, do you put in the amount they recommend on the bottle or more? Just want to make sure. I'm gonna have to try some out.

I use Statadyne or power service. Which ever is on sale. Have had good luck with both products.

Running winter blend #2, and one of the above, I have had no gelling issues.
Knock on wood, I have yet to plug my dodge in yet. Cycle it once, and it fires right up.

I just put in the amount recomended. I buy it in little 16 oz bottles and that treats 60 gallons (it also has 15 gallon incriments on the side so you know how much to put in). As another bonus, the opening on the bottles is small enough that you don't spill everywhere when your trying to put some in the tank. I beleive one of these small bottles is around $5 or $6 so it is more expensive then the other stuff. However, when I used howes or power service, I would dump whatever looked right in the tank (which was probably 4X what was needed). Because I use the exact amount now, I think its about the same price per treatment as the other stuff. 2$ to treat 20 gallons of fuel is alot cheaper then #1 at 0.30 more a gallon.

It's not the easiest to find, I normally buy a case a year at the local diesel performance shop - - just remember it will freeze if not mixed with diesel so keep it inside!
