Did I just screw myself over? Selling a VIN plate off a parted out sled?

Ok, I think I might have just screwed myself over here...

I am currently finishing parting out my 900 RMK.

I had the tunnel/bulkhead listed on eBay for $200, or what was, I guess, 'legally' the 'snowmobile'.

Received message from a buyer from Canada basically stating that they had built a custom sled and needed a VIN plate for it to get it insured.

They asked me if I could cut the vin plate out of the tunnel, then sign my title over to them and provide them with a bill of sale for $3200, so it would look good to the insurance company.

So did I screw myself over here? I went ahead and did this, shipped the title, bill of sale, and VIN plate ... I declard $200 on the customs declaration, but the title and bill of sale were for $3200...

Soooooo did I just get duped here or am I being paranoid?

Nope, didn't get duped. It's common issue for us up here when we build sleds from parts, had a buddy who bought a race sled in the states, didn't have a vin, so the sled never did make it home.

No issue Dogmeat, you just can't sell the tunnel/bulkhead to anyone else now and them be able to register it with that vin (because its gone now obviously).

And you think an "honest" thief is going to go through this amount of trouble to get his "stolen" sled registered...something doesn't add up for me there!

I bet it was legit...

Just my $0.02.

Re-read the first post. Its wordy, but the main part says "I sold my tunnel/chassis to a guy who asked me to not deliver it in its entirety but to part it out for him to save shipping costs."

Welp. I guess the moral of the story is, this whole thing sure wasn't worth $200 one way or the other.

Not gonna set myself up like that again should I ever part another sled out, thats for sure.
