Did I just get scammed by a fellow Snowester....

Always had good luck buying and selling on Snowest forums, it's really a great group of people here.

Just purchased pair of lower a-arms from the swap meet for $240 (gave him an extra $10 to help with shipping) and here is what I got.

He has yet to answer my PM or e-mail.

What do you think?

What did the description say? IS it just scratched or bent so much it is not good to use?

Stainless rivet?

Maybe he did that when they were new as a precaution? Do they look like they have been loose of have any movement when you try and twist them? If there solid I wouldn't worry about it.

If I was selling those it is something I would have pointed out just so the buyer was clear about it up front.

Given the history of these a-arms with bonding issues, there is no way i would have purchased this a-arm had he mentioned it or had a picture of it.

Am I just being paranoid?

Exactly, I too felt it should have been mentioned given the history of these a-arms.

After posting this thread the seller sent me an e-mail stating that these were Polaris dealer warranty replacements installed by the dealer after having an a-arm come apart.

Thoughts....

unless the dealer did that thinking it would help (doubtful) the previous owner did it. I would drill out the rivet and see if the glue is still bonded and it wasnt a fix or if it was done to a new set to stop them from possibly coming apart while riding. Being that he said they came from the dealer like that, hes either lying or forgot.

also maybe find out the dealer and call them to see if they would do such a thing. those are for sure 2013 arms, my 2014 arms have glue oozing out all around the tube.

should have been mentioned. always get pics, no matter what.
I'm about to pick up a track out of the swapmeet. I asked for a few pics and apologized for the hassle.
seller didn't blame me for due diligence. just makes sense.

but yea... definitely should have been mentioned in the ad. no pics = no purchase

also agree w/sled_neck_03, I'd call the dealer the PO claims and ask about it.

for the record, I've done very well through snowest's swap-meet but that's not just running into good guys, it's paying attention and making sure we both are on the same page. One mans trash, is another mans treasure... and unfortunately, vice-versa.

There were several pics, but not of the rivet.

I probably would not have bought the a-arm with the rivet had I'd known or seen it.

Seller did offer me a refund if/when it comes apart FWIW.

Rivet has rust in it. Not stainless.
You prolly will have issues even if it didn't have a rivet in it.
I would take it apart, both sides, bond it and rivet it from both sides with super duper rivets. Now it's better than factory. Sucks but sleds these days are weak weak weak and you have to reverse engineer a heckuvalot to make them stronger.

To answer your question though..........I think he ripped you off. Those were prolly the ones that the dealer took off and replaced.

Seller should just give you your money back if he's truly a stand up guy. Those arms are a well known weak spot and a rivet in there seems like a band aid.

I bought a set of all steel arms from a member in the swap meet who went to aftermarket for whatever reason. Well when I went to put them on, one was tweaked. I couldn't tell from the pictures and I don't know if the seller even knew, but he immediately refunded my money for the bad arm.

If not bonded: arm will fail
If was bonded: arm may fail. I say that because that joint was not designed to have a rivet in it, so if it was done after the fast it could actually have made things worse by potential cracking the adhesive(unlikely but possible).

If your going to try and mechanically retain those forgings the only way to do it is drive a pin all the way though not just rivet one side.

I sold the a arms

Here is the original classified ad

Here was our correspondence

Got the two lower a-arms I paid $240 for.

Appears the right one was riveted.

Please explain this.

I would like to give you the opportunity to make this right.

Thanks,

(deleted real name) mtnsledder ,

In July of 2013 I bought the sled from a riding buddy of mine. I just got done talking to him and he said on a trip out to West Yellowstone in January of 2013 one of the a arms came apart. He brought it over to Polaris West in town and they replaced both lower a arm's under warranty. Those are the warrantied a arms you have. I know in 2013 there was issues of the glue separating on a arms. Why one a arm has a rivet and the other one didn't I can only speculate. My guess is it was a precaution that either polaris factory did on updated a arms or something they instructed dealers to do. I will dig into some old Snowest threads to see if anything shows up on there. I know my buddy has about 600 miles on that set you have. If memory serves me right, on the issued 2013 a arms either they came apart after a couple hundred miles or not at all. When I bought the sled I drove the sled into my garage and put Z bro's 36'ers on for the season, as I like a narrow set up and the stock ones have just been collecting dust. Run it for the season, if for some reason it comes apart I will give you the $120 back for that arm.

Cheers
Shawn

I honestly didn't have a clue the one a arm had a rivet and the other didn't. Normally I pick that stuff up, would notify the seller, and dig into the story like a did above. I have no problem getting the parts pack and refunding the money if there is a concern. Personally I hate selling and buying used stuff, as just that it is used. I couple years back I parted out 2 XP's, that where mine and my brothers. I was comfortable selling those parts for the most part as I know there story inside and out.

Based on what my riding buddy said, they are warrantied a arms from a dealer. It was his first trip on the sled the second week in January 2013. I mentioned running them as a suggestion, because they where warrantied parts, if he wants to return them I am fine with that. I am not on here to pull a quick one on anyone. You can look threw my 700 some posts on here and 1500 dootalk, my integrity speaks for it's self.

PS If any one knows anything about rivets going into a arms during the 2013 Pro RMK "glue-gate" I would love to hear about it. I remember guys/dealers using different fastening methods for the 2008 XP drive shafts and I remember guys/dealers trying different fixes for the 2013 Pro RMK drive shafts .

Cheers
Shawn
