Diamond S Mesh Hood

Just wondering if anyone has experience with a Diamond S mesh hood on a Pro RMK, I have one.. no sled yet. I am concerned about the intake and also wondering about mounting the gauge. The intake just sits open about 2 inches under the mesh of the hood, I don't know if snow getting in may be an issue or too hot of air? And has anyone ever has a handlebar gauge mount on a pro? Ideas? Thanks

I had one for a few rides last season..put SLP over the intake and it worked fine for light powder. However, I roll my sled a lot to get unstuck and the first mashed potatoes day it bent the upper corner of the frame. Scott let me return it so I can't complain but I was disappointed.

Could you elaborate on that a litte, what do you mean you put SLP over the intake? And it worked just fine, or good? ... and I roll my sled. Alot.

I placed one on my 2013 with their gauge pod. I feel it looks pretty good. Not sure if they've reinforced in the last year but it looks pretty stout to me. I'll post a pic once back from getting wrapped.

Ive got the gauge pod, looks kinda out of place or something, and I didnt want to try to mount it, i'm guessing its supposed to be riveted on from the top, can I just drill straight through that mesh with out it wrapping up the bit? And where did you run the wire/wires to the gauge?

I've always liked the DiamondS hoods. We have one for a Pro, all black and never mounted on a sled if anyone is interested will make a good deal on it.
The florite material for the intake will work but is very restrictive. I would try thick, coarse foam as long as it doesnt get iced up and restrictive....or maybe foam wrapped with florite material to add some additional intake surface area??
Some guys dont run anything but I would worry about snow intake.

I drilled without issue and then took a lighter to those areas to stop fraying. I ran the wires over the top of the hood and utilize the stock plug attachment there for my lead dog light. I thought the same on the pod but once mounted it looks pretty good imo. Found one pic from when I started the project.

I think its the best option because you will be able to easily swap back to stock hood if desired because you arent really modifying any of the stock components.

Im still not sure what to do about the gauge. I really want to mount it into the plastic right above the gas gauge but im not sure how to yet or if it will work.

Yeah I finally get my sled on Friday so I can start seeing what I actually have for options gauge wise. I am thinking I may try winterbrews suggestion for the intake, coarse foam sound simple enough... but any idea where I get a chunk of that?

The intake I made realy wasnt that hard. Just built a frame to go around the orignal air horn and got a sheet of pre filter material from SLP. Had velcro sown into it and velcroed it on to the frame. As far as putting the gauge in the center consule I remember it being too shallow for the gauge to fit.

I got my diamond s hood today. i took the gauge and the wiring harness out of the stock hood because that will still be used. then i weighed the two and the diamond s was 5.7 lbs lighter. also the stock hood didnt have a windshield either because i sold it.

so after fabbing up an intake and gauge mount it should be a solid 5 lb weight savings over stock not to mention the added venting. plus i think they look sweet and definitely makes you look different from all the other pros on the snow!

One thing I'm worried about with the diamond s hood is that I've seen really fine snow get sucked through them before on the m-chassis ones. Is this still a problem?

If you don't want something real thick you can get a shop-vac filter (the coarse outer cover) from the hardware store for about $4 and cut to size....those are about 3/8" thick, I have used that on several intakes on different sleds.

I got mine on, the fit is a little off, not bad though, but the 1/4 turn things on the front of the hood are a MAJOR PITA, they do not want to attach. Anyone else having issues? And is that the only way the front of the hood is attached to the sled?

clip fit

You may have to grab some vice grips and bend the metal tabs to get your side panels to line up right. Worked for me.

For sale

Have this hood and pod for sale in swap meet section. Selling sled and parts to go also. I enjoyed the function and look of this hood
