Diamond s hood w/ intake

M

mtn mike on boost

Well-known member
had this hood on my turbo and now i am putting it on an 09 m8.
my new sled not here yet and so i set it on another m chassis, and the O.E.
air box sits about 1-1.5" from the inlet built into the hood.

my questions are
1) will this hood intake flow enough air for a pretty stock motor ?
2) how are you guys connection the hood intake to the airbox ?

thanks....mm

I don't see why it wouldn't work just fine on a stock motor, I think there are plenty of guys running them that way. I would imagine the plenum is approximately the same diameter as the stock one.

I had one on my 05 M7 and what i did was leave that accordion hose on then press the hood down on it. Wasn't the greatest system but it worked good while I had it. I did have vent material over the box to as a backup incase it slid off. It worked fine on my mostly lightlymodded 700 (pipe, reeds, timing key, boondocker)

1) yes it will. last season i ran half with intake in the hood then later on went to bdx air box. So i cut the intake out of the hood. Also i know of 1000's doing fine with the intake in diamond hood
2) just let the hose hang. i actually used a bowl i got from kfc to help center the hose over intake on the top of the air box. i just cut out the center of the bowl and glued to box. used this setup on my m7 for years, never a problem.

hope this helps

Mike it will flow fine, been running this setup for a couple years.
Screw that stupid slinky hose. get the foam donut slp or wrp sells, stick it on your stock box and the hood will go right into it. Deep powder and the motor still gets good air. No Bog
I closed up the gap in front with a piece of alum. sheet with pipe insulation glued to the top edge where it meets the underside of the hood.

One never know where or what you will be doing when a great mod idea hits you!

For anyone else interested in this:
Mike, ya it piles in, but not this way:

so as you can see, this is the foam donut i am talking about. The alum. piece is screwed into the nose cone using the same screws that hold the pos stock one on. Like I said, I used 3m super weatherstrip adheisive to glue the foam on top, I taped it together for a day or so to allow cure time on the glue. That stuff between the alum piece and the nose cone is napa truck canopy sealant tape. Used the thick stuff, and the thin stuff and sandwiched it together and screwed it in.

with the airbox in, you dont even need to mount it anymore, just stick it in, it is a tight fit. I have never had it pop out in 2 years.

The inside: I had to use a razor blade to remove the little ridges on the plastic so the bottom of the metal just sits flush on the plastic ridges.

here is a close up. note: the bottom of the metal is sitting on the plastic ridges I shaved off.

Here is what I did to the back openings, it is a lot of work but keeps the snow out when I got her tipped on her side!

the end result, no snow in the engine compartment!

hope this helps you, any issues let me know. also I have templates for everything if you need them.
One last thing, I took that canopy tape and put it around the engine compartment where the hood meets it for a tight seal. clean the plastic really good before attempting to stick the foam on.:beer;
