Diamond Lake Resort Questions

Due to the lack of any snow here in CA, I am thinking about a roadtrip to Oregon after X-mas. From browsing this forum, I am seeing Diamond Lake Resort popping up quite a bit.
Is this a good choice? Since this will be my wife , two boys and myself, we will be primarily interested in riding groomed trails. Riding from teh resort would be nice, but not a necessity. A pool might be nice for the kids though. I am not sure if there are any other places to stay and ride from though.

Also, do I need an out of state permit to ride that and iuf so, where can I get them?
thanks
Scott

Sounds like Diamond Lake may be what you are looking for. No pool, it froze over. Once the snow hits this place is busy. Plenty of groomed trails to go around. If the weather is good, head to Crater Lake for a view and up to the top of Mt. Bailey, both groomed. Spectacular views at both. I must not know where to go as we never really found any awesome off-trail riding within a decent distance of the resort. There is a good chance you will encounter a lot of ATV'ers that like to use the area for riding up and down the trails too. Once you get out past their riding distance the trails are a lot safer.

thanks for the info..
sounds like it will be a good choice for us for next week..
Are there any other destinations I should consider within an hour or two of that area?
thanks

Assuming good snow conditions, Lake of the Woods, or Fish Lake are decent. These are both on highway 140 west of Klamath Lake. Our club took a trip to LotW in 2006. Nice enough place, but overall it was pretty expensive. Diamond Lake was priced better and a little closer drive for us.

I was there Saturday. Bare spots around the lake itself and on the pizza parlor road. We rode just to the west and it was ok trail riding. The Crater Lake road is not open for snowmobiles. Lack of snow. DL was like a ghost town. I bet you can get a real deal on a room if you ask. It looks like some weather coming so we might pick up a little snow. Jim

they're running $59 dollar rooms through new years. they do have a tube slide for the kiddes. one of the guys who works there has a thread for them at www.sledspace.com, check out sandmans log while your there for some pics from the surrounding area! if you go on there you can ask him questions direct. snow has been lame as throughout the west so far this year. saw a post john did just a couple of days ago, said there was 33 inches at the measuring stick up by mt. bailey. you can still ride from very close to the lodge. if you head up mt bailey way they have been grooming and should be more than enough snow/trails for a good ride. if you weren't coming with the family there is some awesome mt. riding around/very near there. if you ever head up that way and are looking for a guy ride give me a shout, have ridden up there for over 16 years and know a lot of excellent spots!!!

Thanks for the usefull information. I am heading to Diamond Lake on Tuesday and will be staying through the new year. I will be with family but also plan on seeking out some back country with my brother-in-law. I would like to hook up with you and have you show me some areas if you're around next week
