I was riding down the trail yesterday and started to here a whistling noise followed by a foul smell. I thought it was my belt but when I looked I saw smoke coming out of the DD. It looked like some of the fluid had come out of the DD (along where the two case halves mate. I took it apart tonight and haven't found any bad bearings or gears. There was probably between 4-6 ounces of fluid left in it. There were some small metal shavings but I haven't figured out where they came from yet. Is it normal for the planetary assembly to be a little loose? The DD spun normally when it was still together. Is my DD okay or am I in trouble? Any info or suggestions is appreciated.

How did the seal on the output shaft look? It could be that the seal took a dig and burned up on ya. Is there any water in your oil?
if you have metal in the dd, you have a problem....it's telling you, fix me now, or tow me back, and then fix me....
what year is your sled? Did you find any brass?
i wouldnt take any chances! i would buy a set of bd gears new seals new bearings and rebuild it all!
My '07 M8 just broke some gears loose on the shaft while in 4 foot of powder at Lionhead. I had changed oil in the diamonond drive two weeks ago and had a fair amount of shavings in the old oil. Sorry, but you need to check your DD drive more closely, it can bite you!
that happens to me all the time riding my sled...especially after a good feed of beans and chili earlier...don;t worry about it...just shower and put on a new pair of shorts...
iv spun the gear on the shaft on 4 different stock cat gears! its the cause of most 08 07 problems, bought bdx gears problem free!
